Marlins Strike First, Giants Answer Back
The Giants came to Miami looking to bounce back. They had lost the night before, 4-3, and wanted to steal a win on the road. But the Marlins had other plans. In the first inning, Owen Caissie walked with the bases loaded, and Lopez scored to put Miami up 1-0. The Giants didn't stay quiet for long. In the second inning, Max Meyer was pitching for Miami when Drew Gilbert smacked a single to left field. Jung Hoo Lee raced home, tying the game at 1-1. You could feel the momentum shifting back and forth like a pendulum. Both teams wanted this one badly.
Casey Schmitt Breaks It Open with a Blast
The fourth inning was when the Giants' star, Casey Schmitt, stepped up and took control. Meyer threw him a sweeper, and Schmitt connected with pure power. The ball rocketed over the center field wall for a 414-foot home run. Suddenly the Giants led 2-1. But Miami came right back in their half of the inning. Jakob Marsee singled up the middle, and Ruiz scored to tie it at 2-2. Then Edwards hit a grounder that turned into a double play, but Marsee scored anyway, giving Miami a 2-4 lead. Hernandez followed with a massive two-run shot to left. The Marlins had exploded for five runs without even getting extra hits.
Marlins Hold On to Win at Home
The eighth inning brought one last Giants push. Casey Schmitt doubled to center, and Lee scored to make it 3-6. That cut Miami's lead to three runs, but it wasn't enough. The Marlins' bullpen shut the door from there. Pete Fairbanks came in and recorded the save, striking out two batters to end the game. Final score: Marlins 6, Giants 3. Miami improved to 38-38 with this win. The Marlins are now riding a two-game winning streak and sitting strong at home with a 24-16 record. San Francisco fell to 31-44 on the road. Schmitt had a great day with three hits and two RBIs, but it wasn't quite enough to pull off the upset in Miami.
