Cardinals Blast Off Early Against Braves
The Cardinals came into Atlanta hungry. They'd lost the night before, 5-1, and wanted to bounce back fast. Truist Park is where the Braves call home, and it's a tough place to play. But St. Louis struck first with pure power. Jordan Walker stepped up against Hurston Waldrep and crushed a 92-mile-per-hour cutter that rocketed over the left-center wall. The ball sailed 396 feet as Wetherholt and Herrera raced home. Just like that, the Cards led 3-0. The Braves answered right back though. May's fastball had problems early. Dominic Smith smashed a double down the right line that scored three runs. Yastrzemski's sacrifice fly made it 5-3. It was a slugfest in the first inning.
Cardinals Explode for Six Runs in Seventh
The game stayed tight until the seventh inning arrived. That's when the Cardinals went absolutely wild. Nathan Church sent a fastball flying into right-center for a home run. Winn scored behind him, and suddenly it was tied 5-5. But St. Louis didn't stop there. JJ Wetherholt singled up the middle. Ivan Herrera drove in another run with a single of his own. Jordan Walker followed with a single to left. Lars Nootbaar ripped a double down the right line. Masyn Winn grounded into a fielder's choice that scored another. The scoreboard kept climbing: 6-5, 7-5, 8-5, 9-5, 10-5. The Cardinals scored six runs in one crazy inning.
Cardinals' Bullpen Shuts Door on Braves
After that explosive seventh inning, the Cardinals had all the momentum they needed. Their bullpen took over and didn't let Atlanta score another run. Gordon Graceffo, JoJo Romero, George Soriano, and Matt Svanson kept the Braves completely quiet. Meanwhile, St. Louis added one more run in the ninth. Alec Burleson crushed an 83-mile-per-hour curveball to right field for his second home run of the day. That made the final score 11-5. The Cardinals improved to 45-39 and snapped their losing streak. Atlanta fell to 50-35. This victory was huge for St. Louis, showing they could bounce back after yesterday's loss and dominate on the road.
