Jordan Walker's Power Carries Cardinals Early
The Cardinals arrived in Cincinnati ready to battle. They came in with a 29-22 record after dropping their last game. The Reds were right there at 27-25, hungry for a win at home. The night before, St. Louis had lost to these same Reds. Now came Saturday's chance for revenge. In the second inning, Masyn Winn lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. Jordan Walker raced home with the first run. The score was 1-0 Cardinals. Walker was locked in at the plate. He'd finish this game on fire, collecting three hits. His powerful swing would change everything in the sixth inning. The Cardinals struck early, but Cincinnati's bats were waking up fast.
De La Cruz and Lowe Explode for Cincinnati
The fifth inning changed everything. Kyle Leahy was pitching for St. Louis when Elly De La Cruz stepped up. The count went to 1-2. Then Leahy threw a 93-mile-per-hour fastball. De La Cruz connected hard. The ball rocketed over the left-center wall and soared 387 feet. Two runs scored on that blast. The Reds led 3-1. But Cincinnati wasn't done yet. Nathaniel Lowe came up with two outs. Leahy threw an 87-mile-per-hour changeup. Lowe crushed it to center field, sending it 435 feet into the night sky. Spencer Steer scored on that shot. Cincinnati now led 5-1. The Cardinals' pitching was falling apart. De La Cruz and Lowe showed why the Reds' offense could be dangerous.
Walker Battles Back, Reds Survive in Extras
The sixth inning brought hope for St. Louis. Jordan Walker came to bat with nobody out. He worked the count to 2-1 on Chase Petty. Then a 95-mile-per-hour sinker came in. Walker didn't miss. The ball flew to center field, 427 feet away. Ivan Herrera and Alec Burleson both scored. Cardinals led 4-5. Cincinnati answered right back when Dane Myers doubled to left in the bottom of the sixth. The game stayed tight. In the ninth, Jose Fermin smashed a solo home run off Tony Santillan. That tied it 6-6. Walker singled in the ninth to score Victor Scott II. The Cardinals led 6-5 now. But in the eleventh inning, Blake Dunn reached on a fielder's choice. Spencer Steer scored the winning run. Cincinnati won 7-6.
