Cardinals Strike First in Saturday Battle
The Cardinals came to Kauffman Stadium looking to bounce back. They'd lost the night before in a blowout, falling 14-6 to the Royals. Now they were hungry for a win. The game started with the Cardinals on top. Jordan Walker stepped up early and lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. Ivan Herrera raced home from third base, and the Cardinals led 1-0. A few innings later, Nathan Church scored on another single by Herrera. The Cardinals were controlling the early game, pushing runs across and making Seth Lugo work hard on the mound. St. Louis was in the driver's seat with a 2-0 lead heading into the middle innings.
Royals Explode with Hitting and Errors
The Royals woke up fast. In the fourth inning, things fell apart for the Cardinals. Jac Caglianone smashed a single to center field, and Thomas scored to cut the lead to 2-1. Then Michael Massey singled to center, and the ball sailed past Church in left field. Caglianone raced to third, then home. It was 2-2 now. Isaac Collins stepped up and drove a double down the line. Rave and Massey both scored, and suddenly the Royals led 2-4. The Cardinals' pitching was crumbling. In the fifth inning, Caglianone crushed a home run deep to left field. The ball sailed 404 feet. It was 2-5, and the Royals were rolling. The Cardinals couldn't stop the bleeding.
Cardinals Rally But Fall Short in Final Frame
The Cardinals refused to quit. They kept fighting. In the ninth inning, Masyn Winn doubled down the left field line. Then Blaze Jordan came up and delivered. He singled to right field, and both Winn and another runner scored. The Cardinals were suddenly right back in it at 5-6. They had two runners on base with two outs. The Cardinals had life. But it wasn't enough. Alex Lange came in and recorded the final out. The Royals held on 6-5. The Cardinals fell to 40-35 on the season. The Royals improved to 32-46 and grabbed their third straight win. It was a close game that came down to the wire.
