Brewers dominate Cardinals behind Misiorowski's masterclass
The Milwaukee Brewers flexed their muscle at home against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night, cruising to a 5-1 victory at American Family Field. The Cardinals stumbled into Wisconsin riding a two-game losing streak and hoping to turn things around. Instead, they ran into a buzzsaw. Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers' hard-throwing right-hander, took the mound and was absolutely electric. His stuff looked unhittable. The Cardinals managed just two hits over seven innings while Misiorowski struck out 12 batters. Milwaukee's bats came alive early and never let up. The Brewers improved to 31-20 on the season. St. Louis dropped to 29-24.
Yelich's blast and Contreras start Milwaukee's scoring parade
Let's rewind to the bottom of the first inning. William Contreras stepped up against Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore and ripped a single to left field. Jackson Chourio raced home with the game's first run. The Brewers smelled blood in the water. Christian Yelich was next. He locked in and launched a towering home run to left-center field—381 feet of pure power. Contreras jogged home again. Suddenly it was 3-0 before the Cardinals had even recorded an out. Liberatore was struggling. He'd throw hard—his fastball hitting 94 mph—but Milwaukee's hitters were sitting on it. The Cardinals' starter allowed three runs in the opening frame and never recovered. Milwaukee kept building. The Brewers' bats stayed aggressive and hungry throughout.
Cardinals get one back, Brewers put game away late
The Cardinals finally got on the board in the sixth inning. Ivan Herrera grounded out to third base, and Victor Scott II raced home from third. Milwaukee answered back in the sixth when Garrett Mitchell singled to left and Andrew Vaughn scored. Then came the seventh inning. Vaughn muscled a ground-rule double, and Brice Turang scored to make it 5-1. That was all the Brewers needed. Milwaukee's pitching shut down St. Louis the rest of the way. Aaron Ashby pitched two clean innings in relief, striking out one without allowing a hit. The final score: Brewers 5, Cardinals 1. Milwaukee stayed hot at 31-20 with a winning record at home. St. Louis fell to 29-24, still searching for consistency with their young pitching staff.
