Cardinals Strike First, Then the Mets Explode
The Cardinals were hungry after crushing the Mets 9-2 just one night before. Now they traveled to Citi Field in New York ready to keep the damage coming. Christian Scott took the mound for the Mets with everything on the line. Right away, Alec Burleson showed why he's one of St. Louis's most reliable hitters. He watched Scott's first pitch float in and hammered it 424 feet over the right field wall. The Cardinals had an early 1-0 lead. But the Mets answered back fast. Bo Bichette stepped up and crushed a sweeper from Hunter Dobbins. The ball sailed 378 feet over left-center field, and Carson Benge scored on the play. Just one batter later, Jared Young connected on a splitter and sent it 390 feet to right-center. The Mets took a 3-1 lead. The home crowd was alive.
Nootbaar's Blast and Crooks Keep Cardinals Alive
The Cardinals weren't done scoring. In the second inning, Lars Nootbaar stepped to the plate against Christian Scott. He got a fastball right where he wanted it and drove it 445 feet into right-center field. That massive shot put St. Louis back on top 2-1. The Cardinals kept rolling. Jimmy Crooks came up next and connected on another pitch. His home run traveled 374 feet to right field, and Masyn Winn raced home from the base paths. St. Louis led 4-3. The Cardinals' bats were on fire in the early innings. However, the Mets wouldn't quit. Scott kept battling from the mound, and New York's lineup stayed patient at the plate. Every swing felt dangerous. The tension kept building as we moved toward the middle innings with everything still very much in play.
Mets Rally Back to Win in Dramatic Fashion
The Mets refused to fade. In the fifth inning, Justin Bruihl pitched to Jared Young with the score tied at 4-4. Young smashed a sinker to center field and raced to second base. Juan Soto scored on the play, and New York took their first lead of the game at 5-4. Then came the seventh inning drama. JoJo Romero pitched to Juan Soto with two outs. Soto was waiting for his pitch. The sweeper came in, and Soto crushed it 398 feet to right-center. His home run sealed it. The Mets held on as their bullpen shut down St. Louis in the final innings. Devin Williams struck out two batters in the ninth to earn the save. New York improved to 30-38 with this 5-4 victory. St. Louis fell to 37-30. The Cardinals' winning streak was over.
