Junior Caminero's Blast Sets Rays Ahead Early
The Tampa Bay Rays came into Saturday's game at Houston riding a nine-game winning streak. They were hungry for more. Drew Rasmussen took the mound for Tampa Bay, ready to keep the good times rolling. Then boomâJunior Caminero stepped up in the first inning and crushed a fastball 437 feet to left-center. The ball exploded off his bat like a rocket. Caminero's power was on full display. But Houston answered back fast. Yordan Alvarez, one of baseball's most dangerous hitters, launched his own bombâ403 feet to left-centerâand Jose Altuve scored behind him. The game was tied at 1-1 in minutes. Back and forth it went. You could feel the energy building with every swing.
Rays Keep Piling On Against Brown
Richie Palacios came up next and did what Caminero didâhe found the fastball and launched it 409 feet to right-center. Victor Mesa Jr. scored on that blast. The Rays were cooking now. Then in the third inning, Jonny DeLuca singled and drove in another run. The scoreboard kept climbing for Tampa Bay. They built a 6-2 lead that felt commanding. But Hunter Brown, Houston's young starter, was fighting hard on the mound. He was giving up big flies but kept pitching. The Astros would not quit. In the fourth inning, Yainer Diaz smashed a two-run home run to bring Houston closer. Every Rays run felt like it mattered. This game had momentum swings on every pitch.
Alvarez Powers Astros to Dramatic July Fourth Victory
The seventh inning changed everything. Jonny DeLuca smacked a solo home run for the Rays to extend their lead to 8-5. But Houston's bats woke up. Yordan Alvarez was unstoppableâhe hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run. Isaac Paredes singled and drove in another. Zach Dezenzo added another single to make it 8-8. The game was tied heading into the ninth. Then Alvarez stepped up again in the ninth inning against Casey Legumina. The Astros' superstar swung and the ball rocketed 424 feet to center field. Two runs scored on that blast. Houston won 10-8 on a magical July Fourth night. The Astros improved to 43-47 while the Rays fell to 52-34 despite their winning ways.
