Angels' Lineup Wakes Up Against Tampa Bay
The Rays came to Los Angeles looking for a win after dropping the night before, 4-3. They were riding a two-game losing streak heading into Sunday at Angel Stadium. Tampa Bay's pitcher Griffin Jax took the mound for the Rays, looking to keep his team in the game. The Angels were hungry too. Los Angeles had won four games in a row and wanted to keep that momentum rolling. You could feel the energy building as both teams battled for control. In the fourth inning, things started to break open. A fielding error by the Rays' shortstop Taylor Walls let Angels catcher Nolan Schanuel reach first base safely. That mistake would cost Tampa Bay dearly. Jo Adell scored on that error, and suddenly the Angels had the lead, 1-0. The game was shifting fast.
Sixth and Seventh Innings Explode With Angels Scoring
The Angels kept attacking in the sixth inning. Craig Kimbrel was pitching for Tampa Bay when Denzer Guzman stepped up to the plate. The bases were loaded with two outs. Guzman connected on a 94 mph fastball and sent a line drive into center field. Two runs scored on that single. Adell and Schanuel both came home. The Angels weren't done yet. Donovan Walton followed with a double to right field. Guzman raced home, making it 4-0 Angels. The seventh inning brought even more pain for the Rays. Jose Siri crushed a home run deep to center field—431 feet of pure power. Zach Neto scored ahead of him on that blast. Then Guzman and Walton kept the rally alive with back-to-back singles, driving in two more runs. The Angels were demolishing the Rays' pitching staff. Final score: Los Angeles 8, Tampa Bay 0. The Angels improved to 30-42 with the dominant victory.
Angels Dominate, Rays' Pitching Staff Falls Apart
Jose Soriano pitched brilliantly for the Angels, throwing five scoreless innings. He gave up just three hits and struck out five batters. The Rays' bullpen was a disaster. Griffin Jax started the game strong but couldn't finish it. Craig Kimbrel, Cole Sulser, and other relievers got shelled by the Angels' lineup. Sulser was particularly rough, giving up four earned runs in less than an inning of work. The Angels' bats were locked in all day. Jo Adell went 4-for-5 and scored three times. Donovan Walton finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Denzer Guzman added three RBIs of his own. When the final out was recorded, the scoreboard read: Los Angeles 8, Tampa Bay 0. The Angels swept up and improved to 30-42, keeping their four-game winning streak alive. The Rays dropped to 40-28 after the shutout. Tampa Bay's recent struggles continued. Two losses in two days.
