Langford's Blast Puts Rangers Ahead Early
The Rangers came to Fenway Park hungry to bounce back. The night before, Boston had beaten them 6-3. Now Texas had a chance to even the series. Wyatt Langford stepped up to the plate in the first inning with fire in his eyes. The young star swung hard at a pitch from Connelly Early. Crack! The ball rocketed into left field and sailed over the wall. One swing and the Rangers were up 1-0. But the Rangers weren't done scoring yet. In the second inning, Kyle Higashioka came to bat with runners on base. Early threw an 83-mile-per-hour changeup right into his hitting zone. Higashioka connected and the ball flew deep to left center. It cleared the fence and Higashioka rounded the bases with a huge three-run homer. Texas led 4-0 and had seized control fast.
Boston Fights Back With Contreras Mashing
The Red Sox refused to quit. Willson Contreras, the powerful All-Star catcher, stepped into the batter's box in the second inning facing Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi threw an 89-mile-per-hour splitter. Contreras read it perfectly and smashed it to left field. The ball soared out of the park for a solo homer. Boston was on the board, down 4-1. But Contreras came back for more punishment in the sixth inning. This time he connected again against Eovaldi, launching a 392-foot blast to left center. The crowd erupted as the score tightened to 6-3. Meanwhile, the Rangers kept adding runs in the fourth. Brandon Nimmo doubled to center field, scoring two more Rangers and extending their lead. Eovaldi pitched a complete seven innings of strong work for Texas, striking out six batters.
Rangers Escape With Series-Clinching Victory
The Red Sox kept scratching and clawing in the eighth inning. Wilyer Abreu singled to right field and Masataka Yoshida scored to make it 6-4. Boston was hungry and the gap was closing. But the Rangers had just enough. Jacob Latz came in to pitch for Texas and shut down the Red Sox with two strikeouts. The final score was 6-4, Texas. The Rangers improved their record to 35-36 while Boston fell to 29-40. For Texas, this win was huge. They had lost two straight before coming to Boston and needed this victory badly. Langford and Higashioka's early homers proved to be the difference. Eovaldi's steady pitching kept Boston from mounting a real threat. The series was over and the Rangers were heading home with momentum. Sometimes a few early runs are all you need to win a ballgame.
