Rangers Fall Behind Early in Miami
The Rangers came to Marlins Park looking to win back-to-back games after beating Miami 4-3 the night before. Texas wanted to keep its two-game winning streak alive. But the Marlins had other plans. In the second inning, Nicky Lopez hit a ground ball that scored Alejandro Osuna to give the Rangers an early 1-0 lead. The home crowd barely had time to settle in. Then Heriberto Hernandez stepped to the plate and launched a blast to center field 416 feet deep. The ball shot over the wall and tied the game at 1-1. Texas was down but not out yet. The Marlins kept swinging hard. In the fourth inning, Joe Mack connected on a pitch and sent it soaring to right-center for a home run 395 feet away. Miami led 2-1 now. Things were about to get much worse for Dallas.
Miami Explodes with Three-Run Fifth Inning
The fifth inning was when Miami's bats came alive and put the game out of reach. Owen Caissie stepped up with two outs and nobody on, and he crushed a home run to right field 367 feet. But wait—Lopez and Edwards both scored on that same play. Three runs crossed home plate on one swing. The Marlins led 5-1 now, and Texas was in serious trouble. Then Joe Mack came right back up and singled to left, scoring Hernandez. Miami's offense was relentless. The Marlins had the Rangers on their heels. Texas brought in new pitchers but nothing worked. Miami added another run to lead 6-1 heading into the eighth inning. The Rangers' pitching staff couldn't find the strike zone. The Marlins' lineup was too hot to handle.
Rangers Mount Late Rally but Fall Short 6-4
In the eighth inning, Brandon Nimmo stepped up and ripped a home run to right-center field 412 feet. The crowd noise dropped a notch as Texas cut it to 6-2. The Rangers weren't giving up. Then in the ninth inning, Joc Pederson cracked a home run to right-center 384 feet off closer Pete Fairbanks. Now it was 6-3 and the Rangers had some life. Brandon Nimmo came back up and tripled to center, with Wyatt Langford racing home to score. The final score was 6-4 Miami. The Rangers ran out of outs and couldn't complete their comeback. Miami improved to 40-39 on the season. Texas fell to 38-40 despite the late push. The home Marlins held on to win the game and take control of the series.
