Game overview: Rangers beat Athletics 8–1
The Texas Rangers visited the Oakland Athletics at the Athletics' home ballpark on Tuesday, April 14. Both teams wanted a win to build confidence early in the season. Nathan Eovaldi started for Texas and Luis Severino started for Oakland. The final score was Texas 8, Oakland 1, and the Rangers pulled away with big swings. Early offense set the tone, and the crowd watched the momentum shift quickly. This game showed Texas power in the lineup, while Oakland managed only one run late. Overall, the Rangers used strong hitting and steady pitching to earn a clear victory.
Early innings and power hitting
Texas exploded in the first inning when Burger hit a three-run home run to center. The ball soared 417 feet off a 96 mph sinker and cleared the wall with Seager and Carter scoring. That swing put Texas up 3–0 and rattled the Athletics' pitcher. In the third inning, Burger hit another homer to right, a 382-foot blast on a 97 mph sinker, and the score became 4–0. Those early homers showed Texas power and put Oakland on the defensive. Oakland's pitching tried to settle in, but those long balls changed the game's tone very early.
Late scoring and game finish
In the eighth inning, Texas added four runs and broke the game open again. Smith hit a single that scored Pederson and Seager, and Higashioka moved to second with smart baserunning. Later that inning, Jung doubled to center and scored Smith and Higashioka, making it 8–0. Oakland avoided a shutout when Butler launched a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth, a 376-foot shot off a splitter. The game ended 8–1, and the Rangers improved to 9-7 while the Athletics fell to 8-8. This win showed Texas depth, and Oakland will look to bounce back soon.
