Rangers Strike Early Behind Pederson's Blast
The Texas Rangers rolled into Toronto looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Blue Jays were also struggling, sitting at 39-41 after dropping their last two games. MacKenzie Gore took the mound for Texas, ready to show why he earned his first All-Star selection this season. Joc Pederson stepped up first and didn't waste time. He crushed a 95 miles-per-hour fastball from Kevin Gausman straight over the right field wall. The ball sailed 402 feet into the night sky. Texas led 1-0 before you could blink. The Rangers' powerful lineup was waking up early, and Toronto's starter was already in trouble.
Langford and Burger Go Yard in Texas Explosion
The third inning turned into a Rangers showcase. Wyatt Langford stepped to the plate with runners on base. He saw an 85 miles-per-hour slider and ripped it into left-center field. The ball soared 401 feet as Nicky Lopez and Pederson raced home. Texas was up 4-0. Jake Burger wasn't done yet. He hammered an 84 miles-per-hour splitter deep to left field for 378 feet. Seager scored behind him. Just like that, the Rangers led 6-0. Gausman was getting shelled. Toronto's bats were completely silent. MacKenzie Gore was pitching like an All-Star, striking out hitters left and right to keep the Rangers in complete control.
Blue Jays Mount Late Comeback But Fall Short
Toronto finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Davis Schneider lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Okamoto to make it 6-1. Then Myles Straw ripped an 89 miles-per-hour cutter down the left field line for a double. Both Lukes and Kirk raced home. Suddenly it was 6-3. The Blue Jays smelled blood. In the ninth inning, Kazuma Okamoto crushed a 95 miles-per-hour fastball from Jacob Latz deep to center field. The ball traveled 420 feet. Clement scored with him. Toronto pulled within one at 6-5. But it wasn't enough. The Rangers held on. Texas improved to 39-42. Toronto fell to 39-42. Both teams remained in the hunt, but the Rangers escaped with the victory.
