Toronto Strikes Early Against Atlanta's Ace
The Blue Jays came into Atlanta hungry for a win after losing 7-3 the night before. Chris Sale, the Braves' veteran left-hander, took the mound looking sharp. But Toronto wasn't intimidated. In the third inning, Charles McAdoo smacked a single up the middle, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. raced home. The damage wasn't done. Myles Straw stepped up and fired a fastball into center field. McAdoo scored, then Okamoto scored right behind him. Just like that, the Blue Jays led 3-0. Atlanta answered back when Matt Olson hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Ronald Acuña Jr. to make it 3-1. Toronto's bats had struck first, and they weren't backing down.
Dubon's Homer Cuts Toronto's Lead in Half
For most of the game, the Blue Jays controlled the action. Toronto's pitchers kept Atlanta's bats quiet. Sale was done after giving up runs early, and the Braves couldn't mount an offensive charge. You could feel the tension building as the game moved into the later innings. Then in the eighth inning, Mauricio Dubón stepped to the plate against Braydon Fisher. Dubón swung hard at an 88-mile-per-hour slider. The ball screamed off his bat toward left field. It rocketed over the wall. Three-hundred eighty feet. Dubón's solo homer made it 3-2, and suddenly Atlanta had life. The Braves were creeping back into this game, and the crowd sensed it.
Blue Jays Explode Late to Seal the Win
Atlanta's comeback attempt came too late. The ninth inning arrived and Toronto's bats woke up again. This time, they weren't just scoring one or two runs. They were putting together something special. Nathan Lukes singled to right, scoring Ernie Clement to make it 4-2. The inning stayed alive. Myles Straw singled again, driving in Guerrero Jr. to make it 5-2. Then Tyler Heineman stepped up and doubled down the left-field line. Two more runs scored. Just like that, Toronto had exploded for four runs in the ninth. The final score was 7-2, Blue Jays. Toronto improved to 30-33 while Atlanta fell to 42-21. The Braves' winning streak had ended after losing a tough one at home.
