Angels Dominate in Wild Seventh Inning Showdown
The Toronto Blue Jays traveled to face the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, April 22, in a pitching matchup between Eric Lauer and José Soriano. Toronto came into the game with strong pitching depth, while the Angels hoped their young rotation could hold up. However, this game would be decided by explosive offensive moments rather than dominant pitching. The Angels' bats came alive when it mattered most, and Toronto couldn't keep pace. When the final out was recorded, Los Angeles stood victorious with a 7-3 win. The game remained tight for most of the afternoon, but the seventh inning became the turning point that changed everything on the field.
Early Angels Scoring and Seventh-Inning Explosion
The Angels struck first in the third inning when Adell hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring O'Hoppe. Los Angeles extended their lead in the fourth when Schanuel smashed a home run over right-center field, traveling 371 feet with an exit velocity of 102 miles per hour. In the fifth inning, Trout added another home run, blasting the ball 428 feet to left field with incredible power. The Angels' bats were working well early, but Toronto stayed close. Then came the seventh inning, when everything shifted. Schanuel delivered the decisive blow with a double to left that drove in three runs, followed by Grissom's single that made it 7-3. The game was essentially over.
Blue Jays Mount Late Rally but Fall Short
Toronto's offense finally got going in the seventh inning when they scored three quick runs. Heineman grounded out to second, scoring Okamoto, then Lukes doubled to right, driving in Giménez. Clement followed with a single to center, bringing home Lukes and tying the game at 3-3. For a moment, it seemed Toronto might complete a comeback. However, Los Angeles immediately answered in their half of the seventh. Before Toronto could celebrate, the Angels' bats erupted again, and the Blue Jays' hopes disappeared. The loss dropped Toronto to 10-14 for the season, while the Angels improved to 12-14 with their winning streak extended to one game.
