Garcia and Wood Blast Early in Blowout Start
The Nationals came to Arizona ready to swing. In the first inning, Luis Garcia Jr. faced Merrill Kelly and connected on a 92-mile-per-hour cutter that exploded into right field. The ball sailed 363 feet. James Wood crossed home. Two runs were already in, and the game just started. Two innings later, Wood stepped up again. Kelly threw a 92-mile-per-hour fastball right down the middle. Wood crushes it. The ball rocketed to center field, 419 feet away. Now Arizona was down 3-0 and Kelly was in serious trouble. The Nationals kept pounding. Daylen Lile singled to center. Jorbit Vivas doubled to right, scoring two more runs. Just like that, Washington led 6-0. The Diamondbacks scored one run in the bottom of the third when Aramis Garcia homered. But the Nationals' bats were unstoppable.
Nationals Keep Crushing as Garcia Returns to Plate
In the fifth inning, Daylen Lile stepped up to face Kelly again. The pitcher threw a 90-mile-per-hour fastball. Lile was ready. He launched it to right-center field, 393 feet of pure power. Home run. The score jumped to 7-1. But wait, there was more. In the sixth inning, Luis Garcia Jr. came to the plate yet again. This time he faced reliever Philip Abner. Garcia Jr. didn't waste time. He hammered a 427-foot bomb to center field that brought Drew Millas, Nasim Nunez, and James Wood racing home. Four runs scored on one swing. Unreal. CJ Abrams followed with his own home run to right-center, traveling 386 feet. The Nationals were absolutely destroying the Diamondbacks. Washington led 12-1.
Nationals Pile On Late as Washington Cruises to Victory
The Nationals weren't done scoring. In the eighth inning, Dylan Crews reached base on a wild pitch. That allowed Curtis Mead to score, making it 13-1. The game was completely out of reach. One more inning came, and one more run scored. In the ninth, Jorbit Vivas singled to left field. Mead crossed the plate again. Final score: Washington 14, Arizona 1. The Nationals improved to 34-32 on the season and kept their winning streak alive at two games. Foster Griffin earned the win with five strong innings. The Diamondbacks fell to 33-32. This was a total mismatch. The Nationals' bats woke up and refused to stop swinging. Arizona's pitching staff couldn't slow them down. Washington's young stars showed exactly why they're the future.
