Nationals Visit Baltimore, Orioles Strike Early
The Washington Nationals came to Camden Yards on Friday night looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Baltimore was also struggling, sitting with a 38-44 record and two losses in a row. But the Orioles had other plans. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Andrew Alvarez took the mound for Washington. Blaze Alexander stepped up with two outs and delivered the decisive blow—a single to left field that scored both Coby Mayo and Tyler O'Neill. Suddenly, Baltimore led 2-0. The Nationals needed to bounce back fast. Their young stars like James Wood and CJ Abrams would have to find their bats if they wanted to steal this game.
Washington Battles Back, but Baltimore Pulls Ahead
The Nationals didn't quit. In the top of the fifth inning, Keibert Ruiz stepped into the batter's box against Baltimore pitcher Trevor Rogers. Rogers fired a 94-mile-per-hour fastball, and Ruiz made solid contact. The ball shot through the infield to center field. Jacob Young raced home from third base, and Washington was back in the game at 2-1. The Orioles answered in the seventh. Trevor Rogers pitched incredibly for Baltimore, racking up strikeouts. But then Coby Mayo crushed a double down the left field line. Taylor Ward scored from second base, and Pete Alonso advanced to third. That run stretched Baltimore's lead to 3-1. The Orioles' defense tightened as the game moved forward.
Orioles Hold On as Trevor Rogers Dominates
The final innings belonged to Baltimore's pitching. Trevor Rogers was exceptional on the mound, striking out seven batters while giving up just one earned run. The Nationals couldn't mount another threat. The bullpen held strong too. Grant Wolfram and Ryan Helsley came in to shut down Washington's bats. Helsley earned the save by pitching the ninth inning without allowing a single run. When the final out was recorded, Baltimore had won 3-1. The Orioles improved to 39-44, still searching for consistency but earning an important home victory. Washington fell to 41-42, their losing streak now at three games. The young Nationals lineup had fought hard, but Rogers and Baltimore's pitching were just too much on this night.
