Nationals Strike Early Against the Orioles
The Washington Nationals came to Baltimore hungry after losing the night before, 3-1. Both teams were fighting for wins in late June. The Nationals got rolling right away in the second inning. Jorbit Vivas smacked a single to left field. Daylen Lile raced home from second base. The Orioles answered back fast though. Chadwick Tromp lined a single to right, and Jeremiah Jackson scored to tie it up. The game felt wide open. Both offenses were clicking. Luis Garcia Jr. was locked in at the plate for Washington. The young Nationals were hungry. Baltimore's lineup had Pete Alonso and Gunnar Henderson ready to strike back. Every pitch mattered. This was a battle between two rebuilding teams both desperate for momentum.
Garcia's Blast and Millas Keep Washington Ahead
Luis Garcia Jr. stepped up to the plate in the fifth inning and crushed the baseball. The ball rocketed over right field like a missile. A home run. Garcia's 418-foot blast put the Nationals ahead 2-1. You could feel the energy shift. Washington kept piling on in the sixth inning too. Rico Garcia was pitching for Baltimore now. Drew Millas ripped a single to left. Vivas came sprinting home from second. The Nationals led 3-1. Foster Griffin was phenomenal on the mound for Washington. He threw seven innings and gave up just three hits. Nine strikeouts. His arm was sharp. Baltimore couldn't crack his defense. The Orioles were down but not out. Their lineup still had chances to explode.
Orioles Rally Late but Nationals Hold on for Win
The eighth inning exploded for Baltimore. Orlando Ribalta was pitching for Washington now. Pete Alonso doubled down the left field line. Chadwick Tromp came flying home. Then Samuel Basallo singled to right and Alonso scored. Just like that, the Nationals' lead was down to 3-2. The Orioles smelled blood. But Washington's bullpen locked down tight. Clayton Beeter threw one scoreless inning. Justin Lawrence came in and shut the door. In the tenth inning, Daylen Lile singled to right. Dylan Crews raced home from third. Game over. Nationals won 4-3. Washington improved to 42-42. Baltimore fell to 39-45. This was huge for the Nationals' confidence. Two runs in the final frames sealed it.
