Washington Crushes Boston After Tough Loss
You've got to feel for the Red Sox. After beating the Nationals 6-3 yesterday, they came back to Fenway Park ready to roll. But Washington had other plans. The Nationals showed up hungry and cranked out eight runs to win 8-1. The visitors came in looking to bounce back from that loss. Boston's pitching staff just couldn't stop the damage. Cade Cavalli took the mound for Washington and threw seven scoreless innings. He struck out 13 batters and didn't walk a single hitter. That's dominant stuff right there. The Nationals improved to 44-43 with this road victory. Boston fell to 37-47 despite winning five straight games entering Tuesday. This game completely flipped the momentum of the series.
Cavalli Dominates While Nationals Load the Bases
Let's rewind to the early innings. The game started quiet, but things got going fast. In the fifth inning, James Wood singled to right field and Daylen Lile scored. That made it 1-1 and put the pressure on Boston. Then came the seventh inning explosion. Keibert Ruiz smacked an infield single to first base, and Jose Tena trotted home. Nasim Nunez was on third and scored too. That made it 2-1 Nationals. But wait, there's more! Luis Garcia Jr. doubled deep to center field. Nunez and Ruiz both raced home. The score jumped to 4-1. Washington was starting to take control. The Red Sox bullpen started to crack. Boston couldn't find the outs when it mattered most.
Abrams and Ruiz Finish the Job in the Eighth
The eighth inning belonged to the Nationals. CJ Abrams stepped up to the plate with fire in his eyes. Tommy Kahnle threw a changeup at 88 miles per hour. Abrams connected hard. The ball rocketed into right center field and sailed over the wall. The crowd went silent. Abrams had a solo home run. That made it 5-1. Washington wasn't done yet. Keibert Ruiz came up two batters later. He crushed a double to right field. Nunez and Lile both scored. It was now 7-1. Then James Wood doubled to center, and another run came home. The final score read 8-1. The Nationals picked up an important road win. Boston's streak came to an end. Washington showed they belonged in this series.
