Wood and Lile Strike Early Against Ray
The Nationals came to San Francisco riding a two-game winning streak and hungry for another victory. The Giants were stumbling with back-to-back losses, so this Wednesday matchup at their home field felt like a chance to turn things around. You could feel the energy right away. In the third inning, James Wood stepped up against Robbie Ray and didn't waste time. He connected on a 94-mph fastball and sent it rocketing 405 feet to center field. Keibert Ruiz scored ahead of him. The Nationals led 2-0. Ray kept battling, but the damage was done early. Wood's power showed why the young star is the centerpiece of Washington's rebuild. The Giants needed to answer back quickly or this game could get away from them fast.
Nationals Blow It Wide Open in Sixth and Seventh
The sixth inning turned into a disaster for San Francisco. Daylen Lile singled to left with Dylan Crews scoring. Then Carson Seymour took over on the mound and things got worse. Nasim Nunez smashed a single to left field, and suddenly two more runs crossed the plate. Lile and Jacob Young both scored on that one hit. Jorbit Vivas followed with another single to right, pushing another run across. The Nationals had exploded for five runs in one inning and led 6-0. Matt Chapman answered back for the Giants with a massive 421-foot home run to left-center. But that wasn't nearly enough. In the seventh inning, Washington kept attacking. Luis Garcia Jr. doubled down the line with Wood and Curtis Mead in scoring position. Both came home. Crews grounded out but Mead scored again. Lile added another single to right.
Giants Come Storming Back Late for Dramatic Win
The Nationals had built a massive 9-1 lead by the end of seven innings. Everything looked done. But baseball isn't over until the final out. In the eighth inning, relief pitcher Paxton Schultz couldn't find the zone. Chapman homered again, this time 409 feet to center. Devers followed with his own blast 408 feet to center. Suddenly the Giants had momentum. Daniel Susac doubled to left and scored on a wild pitch. Drew Gilbert grounded out but Eldridge crossed home anyway. Another wild pitch scored Susac again. The eighth inning exploded. In the ninth, Curtis Mead added one more for Washington to make it 10-6. But the Giants kept fighting. Chapman doubled to right, scoring Arraez. Then Bryce Eldridge stepped up and delivered the ultimate blow. His three-run rocket flew 326 feet to right field. Chapman scored. Devers scored. Lee scored. Giants won 11-10 in stunning fashion.
