Cavs Dominate Pistons in Series Clincher
Cleveland crushed Detroit 125–94 on Sunday, May 17, moving one step away from the next round. The Cavaliers controlled the game from start to finish, building a commanding lead that Detroit could never overcome. By the end of the first quarter, Cleveland already led 31–22. Although the Pistons tried to stay competitive early, Cleveland's depth and defensive pressure proved too much. The gap widened as the game went on. By halftime, the Cavs held a 17-point advantage at 64–47. When the third quarter ended, Cleveland's lead had ballooned to 26 points. This dominant performance gave the Cavaliers the series 14–7 with one more win needed to advance. The team's ability to play complete basketball on both offense and defense made the difference in this elimination game.
Mitchell and Allen Lead Cavaliers' Offensive Explosion
Donovan Mitchell paced Cleveland with 26 points and 8 assists, showcasing his two-way excellence. The star guard attacked relentlessly whenever Detroit's defense gave him space. Jarrett Allen dominated underneath, collecting 23 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field. His presence at the rim made it nearly impossible for Detroit to defend the paint. Both players moved the ball effectively, creating open looks for teammates. Sam Merrill also stepped up off the bench, draining shots from deep for 23 points on excellent 70 percent shooting. Evan Mobley contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds, controlling the glass and setting the tone defensively. The balanced scoring attack prevented Detroit from focusing their defense on any single threat. When multiple players score like this, opposing teams simply cannot keep pace.
Detroit's Superstar Cunningham Struggles Under Pressure
Cade Cunningham, Detroit's MVP-level playmaker, had his worst night of the series. The 6-foot-8 forward managed only 13 points on poor 31 percent shooting while recording 5 assists. Usually, Cunningham controls every possession with patience and vision, but Cleveland's defense suffocated him consistently. The Cavaliers' length and intensity made it difficult for him to create space or get comfortable looks. Without Cunningham performing at his best, Detroit's entire offensive system sputtered. His teammates struggled to find rhythm without his playmaking spark and scoring threat pulling defenders. Daniss Jenkins tried to carry the load with 17 points, but one player cannot overcome a superstar playing badly. This game demonstrated that when Detroit's best player isn't clicking, the Pistons cannot compete with Cleveland's balanced attack and elite defense.
