The San Antonio Spurs crushed the Detroit Pistons 121-106 on Thursday night. The second-seeded Spurs ended Detroit's three-game winning streak with a dominant performance.
Wembanyama Takes Over
Victor Wembanyama looked unstoppable. The towering 7-foot-4 center scored 38 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. He swatted away five shots, protecting the rim like a fortress wall. Wembanyama shot 50 percent from the floor. Every time he caught the ball near the basket, Pistons defenders looked helpless. His long arms reached over everyone for rebounds. When he blocked shots, the ball flew into the stands.
De'Aaron Fox provided the perfect partner. The speedy guard scored 29 points on excellent shooting. Fox sliced through Detroit's defense with quick cuts to the basket. He added five rebounds and three assists.
Castle Controls the Floor
Stephon Castle ran the offense beautifully. The 2024 Rookie of the Year handed out 12 assists. He scored 11 points while making smart passes all night. Castle found Wembanyama and Fox for easy buckets. Julian Champagnie chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.
Detroit's Streak Ends
The top-seeded Pistons couldn't match San Antonio's firepower. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 26 points and eight assists. He kept fighting but the Spurs had too much size. Isaiah Stewart added 18 points and six rebounds. Tobias Harris and Duncan Robinson each scored 11 points.
San Antonio dominated from the opening tip. They led 38-23 after one quarter. The Spurs pushed the lead to 71-55 by halftime. Detroit never recovered.
Looking Ahead
The Spurs improved to 45-17 this season. They bounced back strong after recent tough losses. The Pistons dropped to 45-16 but still lead the Eastern Conference. Harrison Barnes sat out for San Antonio but his team didn't miss a beat.
Wembanyama showed why he's a superstar in the making. This victory proves the Spurs are ready for the playoffs.
