Lakers Edge Rockets in Tight Playoff Battle
The Los Angeles Lakers held off a determined Houston Rockets team to win Game 2 on April 21, taking a commanding two-game lead in the series. The final score was 101-94, but this game felt much closer than the numbers suggest. Houston kept fighting throughout all four quarters, refusing to go away quietly despite missing key players. The Rockets brought intensity defensively and made scoring difficult for the Lakers' offense. However, Los Angeles found ways to pull ahead when it mattered most. Both teams had their shots and chances, but the Lakers' depth and veteran experience made the difference down the stretch. This victory puts tremendous pressure on Houston heading to Game 3.
LeBron and Marcus Smart Take Control
LeBron James proved why he remains a playoff force, scoring 28 points with seven assists and eight rebounds in Los Angeles' victory. At age 40, he continues playing at an elite level when the stakes are highest. Marcus Smart stepped up tremendously in the backcourt, contributing 25 points on excellent shooting while adding seven assists and five steals. Together, they led the Lakers' offensive attack and controlled the game's tempo. Luke Kennard also played crucial minutes, scoring 23 points and helping manage the ball without his injured teammates. Because both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves remained sidelined with injuries, these three had to shoulder the offensive load. They responded professionally, executing the Lakers' system and making smart decisions under pressure.
Sengun and Durant Battle in Losing Effort
Alperen Sengun showcased his All-Star talent with 20 points, five assists, and an impressive 11 rebounds for Houston. The versatile center controlled the paint and made life difficult for Los Angeles' interior defense. Kevin Durant remained productive despite the loss, adding 23 points on solid shooting while playing 41 minutes. At 37 years old, Durant demonstrated the veteran experience and scoring touch that keeps Houston competitive. Amen Thompson contributed across the board with 16 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. However, without Fred VanVleet sidelined by injury, Houston's backcourt depth suffered. The Rockets fought hard throughout, but couldn't quite overcome Los Angeles' balanced scoring and superior depth. This Game 2 loss puts Houston in a difficult position heading back home.
