The Knicks survived a wild comeback attempt at Madison Square Garden. They held off the Rockets 108-106 on Saturday night. New York extended their winning streak to eight games. Houston's three-game run came to an end.
Towns Takes Over
Karl-Anthony Towns powered the Knicks with 25 points. He shot an amazing 67 percent from the floor. Towns grabbed seven rebounds and looked unstoppable around the basket. His long arms reached high for shots. His quick feet helped him spin past defenders. Towns was a wall in the paint on defense too.
Jalen Brunson added 20 points for New York. He dished out six assists to keep everyone involved. OG Anunoby matched Brunson with 20 points of his own. He also swiped four steals with his quick hands. Landry Shamet came off the bench hot. He dropped 14 points on 71 percent shooting. Mikal Bridges added 11 points and five assists.
Durant Battles Hard
Kevin Durant led all scorers with 30 points for Houston. The veteran superstar played 38 minutes. He refused to let his team go down easy. Durant's fadeaway jumpers looked smooth even when defenders crowded him.
Jabari Smith Jr. had a great night with 21 points. He shot 62 percent from the field. Alperen Sengun contributed 16 points, six assists, and six rebounds. He blocked three shots with perfect timing. Amen Thompson filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Tari Eason pulled down 12 rebounds to battle on the boards.
A Fourth Quarter Finish
New York led 91-75 after three quarters. Then Houston charged back. The Rockets made it a nail-biter in the final minutes. But the Knicks held on for the two-point victory.
New York improved to 36-21. Houston fell to 34-21. Both teams showed why they're playoff contenders.
