Spurs Jump Out Big Early, Knicks Fight Back
The San Antonio Spurs came out swinging at home. Victor Wembanyama threw down a quick dunk, but Jalen Brunson answered right back with a three-pointer. The Spurs kept the pressure on. Dylan Harper drained a three, then another bucket. Keldon Johnson fired in a three-pointer, and San Antonio stretched the lead to 20-10. You could feel the energy in the arena — the home crowd was roaring. But Brunson wouldn't let New York fall too far behind. He kept attacking, hitting jump shots to keep the Knicks close. By the end of the first quarter, the Spurs led 23-13. They had dominated early, but Brunson's clutch shooting kept New York's hope alive heading into the second quarter.
Spurs Build a Lead, Knicks Creep Back In
The second and third quarters were a roller coaster. San Antonio kept pushing. Julian Champagnie drained threes. Victor Wembanyama hit a three from deep. The Spurs' lead grew to 42-37 at halftime. But something shifted in the third quarter. The Knicks started chipping away. Mikal Bridges hit threes. Jalen Brunson drove to the basket, scoring layup after layup. Dylan Harper kept answering for San Antonio, but the Spurs' lead kept shrinking. By the end of the third quarter, San Antonio still led 72-65. New York was creeping closer with every possession. The game was tightening. You could sense the momentum swinging toward the Knicks as Brunson took over both ends of the court.
Brunson Takes Over in Clutch Finish, Knicks Win Championship
The fourth quarter belonged to Jalen Brunson. The Spurs led 85-83 with everything on the line. Then Brunson took over. He drove down the lane and scored a layup. 85-85. The game was tied. Brunson kept attacking. Another layup. 85-87, Knicks ahead for the first time late. Dylan Harper tied it up at 88-88, but Brunson wouldn't back down. He rose up and buried a jump shot with 1:05 left. 88-90, Knicks. Stephon Castle answered with a dunk, but it was too little too late. Brunson's ice-cold shooting and fearless play had sealed it. The Knicks won 94-90, capturing their first championship in decades. New York finished the Finals 4-1. Brunson's 45 points and masterful fourth-quarter performance sent the Knicks home as champions.
