Thunder Survive Battle at Madison Square Garden
The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder escaped Madison Square Garden with a 103-100 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. Two of the league's best teams battled down to the final buzzer.
Thunder Stars Take Control
Chet Holmgren looked unstoppable all night long. The seven-foot-one center scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds. His long arms stretched toward the basket as he knocked down shot after shot. Holmgren shot nearly 58 percent from the floor.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 26 points and eight assists. The reigning MVP sliced through defenders like a knife through butter. He found open teammates and created his own shots when needed. Gilgeous-Alexander controlled the game with 36 minutes of action.
Luguentz Dort provided crucial support with 16 points. His tough defense helped slow down New York's scorers. Oklahoma City jumped out to an early lead and held on when it mattered most.
Knicks Fight Until The End
Karl-Anthony Towns dominated the boards with 17 rebounds. He also scored 17 points on incredible 87.5 percent shooting. Towns muscled through defenders and used his size to grab every rebound in sight.
Jalen Brunson dished out 15 assists while scoring 16 points. He whipped passes across the court like a quarterback. Brunson kept the Knicks fighting even when shots weren't falling.
OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges each added 16 and 15 points. Landry Shamet came off the bench with 14 points to spark the offense.
Championship Form
The Thunder now hold the best record in the Western Conference at 49-15. They're rounding into championship form at the perfect time. Oklahoma City won the first half 50-40 but had to survive a strong Knicks comeback.
New York dropped to 40-23 but remains a dangerous Eastern Conference threat. Both teams showed why they're legitimate title contenders this season. The Thunder proved they can win close games on the road.
