The defending champion Thunder proved they can win even without their biggest stars. Oklahoma City rolled past Toronto 116-107 on Tuesday night, showing the kind of depth that championship teams need.
Next Man Up
The Thunder were missing superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and forward Jalen Williams due to injuries. No problem. Cason Wallace stepped into the spotlight like a hero in an action movie. He exploded for 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 35 minutes. Wallace sliced through defenders and knocked down shots all night long. He hit nearly 69 percent of his attempts from the floor.
Isaiah Joe joined the party with 22 points on 50 percent shooting. Joe's quick release on his jumper looked like lightning striking the net. Alex Caruso added 16 points and played lockdown defense with two steals. Luguentz Dort chipped in 15 points while battling on both ends of the court.
Defense Takes Over
Toronto started strong and led 32-25 after the first quarter. Then Oklahoma City's defense clamped down like a steel trap. The Thunder outscored the Raptors 35-19 in the second quarter to grab a 60-51 halftime lead. By the end of the third quarter, OKC had stretched the advantage to 98-80.
Isaiah Hartenstein controlled the paint with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots. He swatted away Toronto's attempts at the rim like he was playing volleyball.
Raptors Fight Back
RJ Barrett led Toronto with 21 points and eight rebounds. Immanuel Quickley and Ja'Kobe Walter each scored 17 points. Scottie Barnes stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, seven assists, three steals, and four blocks. His defense looked fierce, but it wasn't enough.
The Thunder improved to 45-14 and remain number one in the Western Conference. Even without their stars, this team keeps winning games the right way.
