Spurs Show Championship Grit in Detroit
The San Antonio Spurs walked into Detroit and took down the Eastern Conference leaders 114-103 on Monday night. Devin Vassell put on a scoring clinic while Victor Wembanyama controlled everything near the basket. The Pistons entered with momentum but couldn't stop San Antonio's balanced attack.
Vassell Takes Over
Devin Vassell was unstoppable all night long. He poured in 28 points and shot an amazing 71 percent from the floor. Vassell sliced through Detroit's defense like a hot knife through butter. He made tough shots look easy. When the Pistons tried to trap him, he found open teammates. When they backed off, he attacked without fear.
Wembanyama's Monster Night
Victor Wembanyama was a giant problem for Detroit. The seven-foot-four center grabbed 17 rebounds and swatted away six shots. His long arms seemed to reach everywhere at once. Wembanyama also scored 21 points and dished out four assists. He protected the rim like a fortress wall. Every time a Piston drove to the basket, they had to worry about Wembanyama waiting there.
Balanced Spurs Attack
Julian Champagnie added 17 points and six rebounds. Stephon Castle ran the offense beautifully with 11 assists and 16 points. De'Aaron Fox contributed 10 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. The Spurs shared the ball and found the hot hand.
Pistons Fight But Fall Short
Detroit's Jalen Duren fought hard with 25 points and 14 rebounds. He shot 77 percent from the field. Cade Cunningham struggled from the floor but still managed 16 points and 10 assists. Ronald Holland II grabbed 11 rebounds to go with 15 points. Duncan Robinson scored 13 points.
The Spurs led after three quarters and never looked back. They're proving they can win big games on the road against the best teams in basketball.
