Spurs Dominate Fourth Quarter to Clinch Series
San Antonio proved why they belong in the championship conversation Sunday night, defeating Portland 114-93 to go up three games to one. The Spurs came out of halftime tied at 74 points each, but then took complete control. Victor Wembanyama dominated down the stretch, using his incredible size and athleticism to protect the paint while scoring at will. De'Aaron Fox orchestrated the offense with precision, finding cutters and spacing the floor perfectly. When Portland tried to climb back, San Antonio's defense tightened significantly. Stephon Castle's three-pointers and pick-and-roll passes created constant headaches for the Blazers' backcourt. By the fourth quarter, the game had essentially ended. San Antonio's relentless execution proved too much for Portland to handle down the final stretch of the series.
Wembanyama and Fox Lead Scoring Explosion
Victor Wembanyama's two-way brilliance carried San Antonio to victory. The seven-foot-four superstar finished with twenty-seven points while protecting the rim with seven spectacular blocks and four steals. His combination of offensive skill and defensive dominance made him virtually unstoppable. Meanwhile, De'Aaron Fox exploded for twenty-eight points on incredibly efficient sixty-four percent shooting. Fox's speed created countless fast-break opportunities that caught Portland's defense scrambling. Castle contributed sixteen points and eight assists, controlling the tempo perfectly. Meanwhile, Portland's Deni Avdija scored twenty-six points but couldn't find enough support. Jrue Holiday added twenty points, yet it wasn't enough to slow San Antonio's onslaught. Wembanyama's alley-oop dunks from Castle proved especially devastating in the fourth quarter.
Portland's Comeback Falls Short in Final Period
Portland came roaring back in the second half, nearly erasing San Antonio's early lead. After trailing twenty-eight to forty-three at halftime, the Blazers fought hard to tie things at seventy-four entering the fourth quarter. Deni Avdija's all-around play kept Portland competitive throughout the second half. Jrue Holiday's leadership and veteran poise helped stabilize the Blazers' offense. However, San Antonio's explosive fourth-quarter shooting proved impossible to overcome. Fox's step-back three-pointers with eight minutes remaining essentially sealed Portland's fate. Castle's consistent scoring off the bench gave San Antonio reliable depth. Despite Avdija's valiant effort, Portland couldn't generate enough stops defensively. The Spurs' combination of size, speed, and shooting overwhelmed the Blazers down the stretch. San Antonio advances toward a series-clinching opportunity.
