Two 4-2 teams will arrive at Soldier Field with the same goal: turn a strong start into a season-defining win. On Thursday night, Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears welcome Drake Maye and the New England Patriots in a matchup that feels like two rising powers meeting in the cold lights.

Chicago is trying to prove that last season’s NFC North title was the start of something bigger. New England is trying to show that its stunning run to last season’s Super Bowl was no one-time surprise. Both teams have won three of their last four games, but they reach this game in different ways. The Bears create a fast, balanced attack. The Patriots lean on Maye’s arm, his quick feet, and a defense that makes every yard difficult.

Williams has a lively group around him. D’Andre Swift is the engine on the ground, using his burst to race through small openings and his hands to help in the passing game. His six rushing touchdowns already show how often Chicago trusts him near the goal line. Rome Odunze gives Williams a strong outside target, while tight end Colston Loveland works the middle of the field, where taller defenders and smaller defenders both have trouble matching him.

That mix helped Chicago score 25 points per game, slightly more than New England. It also helps explain why the Bears gain nearly 389 yards per game. After a lopsided loss to Green Bay in Week 5, Chicago answered with a 31-point effort against Atlanta. The Bears showed they can recover quickly when a game goes wrong.

Maye presents a different kind of challenge. He has thrown 11 touchdown passes, but he also has seven interceptions. When he is on time and careful with the ball, he can fire deep throws, hit short passes, or escape pressure and run himself. He has already rushed for 185 yards, making him a quarterback defenders cannot simply chase from behind.

New England’s recent three-game winning streak showed that Maye has support. Rhamondre Stevenson brings power between the tackles, while A.J. Brown gives Maye a big target who can fight for tough catches. Hunter Henry remains a dependable option close to the end zone and on key plays. But the Patriots will need extra toughness up front. Several starting linemen are unavailable or uncertain, and Chicago’s defense allows only 19.8 points per game.

The Bears have their own challenges on defense, with linebacker T.J. Edwards doubtful and several other defenders sidelined. That could give Maye more room to find Henry and attack the middle. Yet Chicago has held opponents to just over 302 yards per game, nearly matching New England’s sturdy defense. This game may come down to which young quarterback stays calm when Soldier Field gets loud.

The Patriots have the experience of last season’s championship chase, and Maye can change a game in one snap. Still, Chicago’s deeper collection of healthy playmakers, home field, and ability to run the ball give the Bears a narrow edge. Prediction: the Bears win.
