The Jacksonville Jaguars wanted a response after their Week 2 loss in Denver. On Sunday at EverBank Stadium, they delivered one with power and precision, turning three New England turnovers into a 35-6 win. The Patriots arrived at 1-1 with the NFL’s stingiest early defense, but Jacksonville cracked that wall and moved to 2-1.

The game began as a tough field-position battle. Jacksonville’s Bhayshul Tuten ripped off a 12-yard run, while New England quarterback Drake Maye used his legs and found Mack Hollins for gains. Then the Jaguars found the first big break. A Jacksonville pass rusher knocked the ball loose from Maye on a sack, and defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton recovered it at the Jaguars 38.

Trevor Lawrence made that extra chance count. He calmly moved Jacksonville down the field with short throws and runs by Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. Early in the second quarter, Lawrence fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to receiver Josh Cameron. Jacksonville led 7-0, and its answer had begun.

New England got a chance to swing the game back when cornerback Marcus Jones intercepted Lawrence at the Jaguars 33. But the Jaguars defense slammed the door near its own goal line. Lawrence and the Jaguars answered right away. New England marched inside the Jacksonville 25 early in the third quarter, but Borregales missed a 38-yard field goal. That miss mattered because Jacksonville then built the game’s biggest drive. Lawrence guided the Jaguars 68 yards, even after linebacker Gabe Jacas and Elijah Ponder combined for a sack. On third down near the goal line, Lawrence hit Parker Washington for a 17-yard touchdown. The score made it 21-3.

The next play broke the game open. Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones intercepted Maye and returned the ball to the New England 5. Rodriguez scored on the next snap, giving Jacksonville a 28-3 lead just 18 seconds after Washington’s touchdown.

Maye threw for 199 yards, and Hollins made six catches for 87 yards, but New England could not finish drives. The Patriots reached the red zone, the area inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, three times and scored no touchdowns. Jacksonville, meanwhile, scored on all five of its red-zone trips.

Tuten added a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to complete the 35-6 rout. He rushed for 73 yards and gave Jacksonville the steady ground game it needed. Lawrence threw for three touchdowns, while the Jaguars defense forced mistakes at exactly the right moments.

Jacksonville now carries a 2-1 record into its next game against Cincinnati, with proof that last season’s 13-win surge still has life. New England falls to 1-2 before facing Buffalo, needing to turn promising drives into points and protect the football against another tough opponent.
