Cam Skattebo turned a tied game into a Giants celebration with one roaring run. The powerful New York running back burst 42 yards in overtime, then watched Devin Singletary race 30 yards for the winning touchdown as the Giants beat Houston 27-21. New York arrived at 3-2-1 trying to bounce back from a tough loss, while the 2-4 Texans hoped their recent surge would keep rolling at home.

Houston struck first, but only with a 58-yard field goal from its kicker after Xavier Hutchinson muffed the opening kickoff and still escaped to the Texans’ 35-yard line. New York answered with a far bigger drive. Malik Nabers climbed over the middle of Houston’s defense for a 42-yard catch, setting up Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s 2-yard touchdown run and a 7-3 Giants lead.

The Giants kept finding ways to move the ball. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy hit wide receiver Malachi Fields for 47 yards, though New York missed a long field goal at the end of that drive. Houston’s kicker added another huge kick, this time from 57 yards, to pull the Texans within 7-6.

Then Nabers took over again. His 17-yard catch helped drive New York toward the goal line, and tight end Thomas Fidone II made a 29-yard grab to reach the 1. Jameis Winston finished the march with a quarterback sneak, a short plunge behind his blockers, for a 14-6 lead.

C.J. Stroud and Houston refused to fade. Stroud fired a 43-yard pass to Tank Dell with two minutes left in the half. Penalties helped the Texans closer, and Stroud found wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. for a 6-yard touchdown. A two-point pass to tight end Cade Stover tied the score, 14-14, with 34 seconds left. Houston had erased an eight-point hole without allowing New York time to settle in.

The third quarter became a defensive tug-of-war. Houston’s pass rush sacked McCarthy twice, while the Giants squeezed Stroud and held Nico Collins to two catches for 6 yards. A replay also wiped out what first looked like a Giants fumble-return touchdown, keeping the game tied heading into the fourth.

New York finally broke through with an 11-play drive. Fields caught a 14-yard pass to reach the 16, and Skattebo powered through the middle for a 16-yard touchdown. His 124 rushing yards gave the Giants the tough ground game they needed for a 21-14 lead.

Stroud answered late. Houston leaned on its running back, who gained 66 yards on 19 carries, before Stroud found Hutchinson for a 3-yard touchdown with 52 seconds left. But overtime belonged to New York. Skattebo’s long dash cracked open the field, and Singletary finished the job.

The Giants moved to 4-2-1 and now face the Eagles with a road win built on 420 total yards and steady late-game poise. Houston fell to 2-5 before meeting the Chargers, left searching for an offense that can match its fighting defense for a full game.
