With 1:47 left in overtime, Stephen Curry rose for a 26-foot three-pointer and gave Golden State the lead for good. It was the biggest flash in a 41-point night, but the Warriors needed every bit of help from rookie Yaxel Lendeborg to outlast Orlando 126-119 on Saturday. Golden State entered at 6-3, trying to keep its early-season push rolling, while the 2-6 Magic sought a road spark without Paolo Banchero.
The Warriors jumped ahead because Draymond Green turned the floor into his passing map. He assisted on Golden State’s first three baskets, including a Curry three and a Lendeborg dunk, as the home team raced to a 17-9 lead. Curry finished the first quarter with a deep three, and Brandin Podziemski answered Orlando’s late push with another from long range. Golden State led 31-19 after one.
Orlando fought back with hustle. Forward Cain hit two three-pointers late in the first, then guard Carter buried three long shots in the second quarter. Franz Wagner added a three to trim the gap to 48-39. Yet Curry answered with a step-back jumper, Podziemski drilled a three, and Curry beat the halftime horn with a 28-footer. Golden State took a 57-41 lead into the break.
Then Orlando’s young attack turned the game upside down. Anthony Black scored on a fast-break layup after a steal, while Wagner fed Wendell Carter Jr. for an alley-oop dunk. Wagner hit two third-quarter threes, and Tristan da Silva knocked down another as the Magic erased the deficit. Black’s three put Orlando ahead 75-73, and his three-point play made it 78-73 entering the fourth. The Magic grabbed 24 offensive rebounds, meaning they kept getting their own missed shots back for extra chances.
Curry and the Warriors refused to fade. A three by forward Niang tied it at 85, and Lendeborg soon put Golden State ahead with a dunk, a three, and a short jumper. Still, Orlando answered every time. Wagner scored 30 points and handed out 11 assists, while Carter finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Carter’s late three tied it 106-106, and after Curry’s driving layup, forward Cain tipped in a miss with 1.5 seconds left to force overtime at 110-110.
In the extra period, center Bassey opened with two free throws and a floater. Da Silva’s three gave Orlando a brief 118-117 lead, but Curry answered with a three-point play and later a short jumper. Lendeborg sealed the fight with a dunk and two free throws. His 23 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks gave Curry the strong partner Golden State needed.
The Warriors moved to 7-3 and head next to face New Orleans, carrying another lesson in late-game poise. Orlando fell to 2-7 before meeting Sacramento, but its comeback showed that Wagner, Black, Carter, and da Silva can create a powerful challenge when they keep attacking together.
