Seahawks Dominate Steelers 31-17 Behind Kenneth Walker III's Breakout Performance
Seahawks Roll Past Steelers 31-17 as New Offense Clicks
The Seattle Seahawks went to Pittsburgh and won a strong game 31-17 against the Steelers. This game showed off their new offense, managed by coordinator Klint Kubiak. Both teams faced big changes as they head into the 2025 season.
The Seahawks came into this game with a new style of play, moving from mostly throwing the ball to focusing more on running. Quarterback Sam Darnold, who took over from Geno Smith, wanted to show he could lead this new running game. He was joined by running back Kenneth Walker III and new receiver Cooper Kupp.
On the Steelers' side, they were also dealing with changes. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers joined to play in what he said would be his last season. They also welcomed star receiver DK Metcalf, who they traded from Seattle in a big deal.
First Quarter: Seahawks Strike Early
Seattle quickly showed their new style. They moved down the field smoothly, with Walker making big plays. Sam Darnold completed good passes, including a nice 21-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Horton to finish a strong opening drive.
The Steelers fought back with Aaron Rodgers getting the ball to his running backs, especially Jaylen Warren, who caught many passes. But Pittsburgh only got a 48-yard field goal by Chris Boswell, bringing the score to 7-3.
Seattle's passing game stumbled when Darnold threw an interception to Jalen Ramsey. But the Steelers could only get another field goal, making it 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter: Steelers Take Control
Pittsburgh's offense got better in the second quarter, even though they had some early problems. The Steelers moved into Seattle's territory several times, with Warren being a top target for Rodgers in the passing game.
After Seattle missed a 36-yard field goal that hit the post, Pittsburgh took advantage of good field position. A big interception by Nick Herbig helped set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to DK Metcalf, who scored against his old team.
The Steelers converted a two-point conversion, leading 14-7 at halftime and gaining some momentum.
Third Quarter: Seahawks Respond
Seattle started to take control in the third quarter with their running game, led by Kenneth Walker III. Walker made several strong runs, including a 15-yard burst that showed off his skills in Kubiak's system.
Cooper Kupp started to shine too, making key catches that moved the ball. Seattle finished a long drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Barner, tying the game at 14-14.
Pittsburgh had a big chance when Jaylen Warren got a 65-yard catch, but the drive stopped when Rodgers threw an interception in the red zone.
Fourth Quarter: Seattle Pulls Away
The last quarter was all about the Seahawks. Walker kept having a great game, including a 20-yard run that showed why he's ready for a big season in this offense.
Seattle scored a field goal to take a 17-14 lead, then scored again with a touchdown on a kickoff recovery raising their lead to 24-14.
Walker finished his great day with a 19-yard touchdown run, totaling 105 rushing yards and a score on 13 carries, along with 13 receiving yards. His performance proved that the Seahawks made the right choice by focusing on their running game.
Sam Darnold completed 22 of 33 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns, even though he did have two interceptions. Cooper Kupp was the leading receiver with 90 yards on seven catches, adjusting well to his new team.
Looking Ahead
This win shows that Seattle's change in offense under Kubiak is working well. The mix of Walker's dynamic running and Darnold's precise passing gives them a balanced attack that can surprise other teams this season.
For Pittsburgh, the loss reveals the difficulties of bringing in so many new players. While Rodgers had some strong moments, the offense struggled at key points, and the defense could not handle Seattle's running game.
Both teams will look to learn from this game as they prepare for their next matches in an exciting 2025 NFL season.
