Rising Stars Shine on All-Star Weekend’s Opening Night

The 2026 NBA Rising Stars Challenge was one of the most exciting events of All-Star Weekend. Four teams made up of the league’s top rookies, second-year players, and G League standouts competed in a fast-paced tournament. When the night was over, Team Vince captured the championship in dramatic fashion.

Legendary Coaches on the Sidelines

Each team was led by a well-known NBA figure. Carmelo Anthony coached Team Melo. A 10-time All-Star and one of the greatest scorers in league history, Anthony brought experience and leadership.

Tracy McGrady coached Team T-Mac. A two-time scoring champion, McGrady was known for his smooth shooting and ability to take over games.

Vince Carter, one of the most famous dunkers in NBA history, coached Team Vince. His long career and highlight-reel plays made him the perfect mentor for young stars.

Austin Rivers coached Team Austin, guiding a group of talented G League players.

The First Round Matchups

In the first game, Team Melo defeated Team Austin 40–34 behind strong performances from players like Reed Sheppard and Stephon Castle.

In the second semifinal, Team Vince beat Team T-Mac 41–36. VJ Edgecombe, Derik Queen, and Matas Buzelis helped lead the way.

A One-Point Championship Finish

The championship game between Team Vince and Team Melo was incredibly close. Using the target score format, every possession mattered. Team Vince won 25–24 in a thrilling finish.

VJ Edgecombe, the number three overall pick for the Philadelphia 76ers, delivered clutch plays and earned the MVP award, proving he is one of the league’s brightest young talents.
