Seahawks Survive Wild Shootout Against Cardinals 23-20 in Week 4 Thriller
What a game! The Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals put on an absolute show in Week 4, with the Seahawks escaping with a thrilling 23-20 victory that kept their hot streak alive. This matchup featured two teams heading in opposite directions, Seattle riding high on a three-game winning streak at 3-1, while Arizona desperately needed to stop their two-game slide at 2-2.
First Quarter: Early Fireworks
The action started fast! Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray began moving his team down the field with quick passes to tight end Trey McBride and rookie star Marvin Harrison Jr. But Seattle's defense struck first when cornerback Bryant picked off Murray's deep pass intended for Harrison Jr. However, Bryant fumbled the return, giving Arizona the ball right back in great field position!
The Cardinals took advantage, with Murray finding his reliable targets Greg Dortch and McBride before settling for a 33-yard field goal by Ryland. Seattle answered right back with an impressive drive led by Kenneth Walker III, who broke off some beautiful runs including a 21-yard burst. Sam Darnold capped the drive with a touchdown pass to Barner, giving the Seahawks a 7-3 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter: Defense Takes Center Stage
The second quarter belonged to the defenses, with both teams creating turnovers. Seattle's secondary picked off Murray again, this time with Jones making a spectacular 29-yard return. The Seahawks used that gift to march down and score on a Zach Charbonnet touchdown run, extending their lead to 14-3.
Murray struggled with his accuracy, completing just 27 of 41 passes and throwing two costly interceptions. Meanwhile, Darnold looked sharp, completing 18 of 26 throws for 242 yards, making it 14-3 at halftime.
Third Quarter: Cardinals Fight Back
Arizona came out determined in the third quarter! Murray started finding his rhythm, connecting with McBride for 52 receiving yards on seven catches. The Cardinals' defense also stepped up, sacking Darnold three times and forcing a fumble. Arizona managed a 57-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 17-6 after Seattle added a field goal of their own.
Fourth Quarter: Thrilling Finish
The final quarter was pure excitement! Murray finally found his connection with Harrison Jr., who finished with 66 receiving yards and caught a beautiful 16-yard touchdown pass. The young receiver showed why he was a first-round pick, making clutch catches when his team needed them most.
With the Cardinals trailing 20-13, Murray engineered a masterful final drive. He scrambled for crucial yards, showing the dual-threat ability that makes him so dangerous. The drive ended with a touchdown pass to Demercado, giving Arizona a 20-20 tie with just seconds remaining.
But Darnold wasn't finished! The veteran quarterback led a lightning-quick drive down the field, finding Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a crucial 22-yard gain. With time expiring, Myers nailed a 52-yard field goal to win it for Seattle, 23-20!
Looking Ahead
This victory keeps Seattle's playoff hopes bright at 3-1, proving their new run-heavy offense under coordinator Kubiak can win games multiple ways. Walker finished with 81 rushing yards on 19 carries, while Smith-Njigba contributed 79 receiving yards.
For Arizona, the loss drops them to 2-2, but Murray's 200 passing yards and improved chemistry with Harrison Jr. provides hope. The Cardinals showed they can compete with anyone when their offense clicks.
Seattle will look to extend their winning streak against their next opponent, while Arizona must regroup quickly to get back in the playoff race. What a fantastic game of football!
