Sunday Showdowns: From Afternoon to Primetime
The afternoon and evening games bring plenty of excitement to close out the first Sunday of the season. With new faces in big roles, tough rivalries, and a primetime showdown between two AFC powerhouses, fans are in for a full day of football.
Titans at Broncos (Empower Field at Mile High) - 4:05 PM
The Titans enter with rookie quarterback Cameron Ward leading an offense that will try to lean on Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard. Denver’s defense is one of the league’s best, and they’ll look to make life hard for the young passer. On offense, Bo Nix continues his rise at quarterback, working with Courtland Sutton and new tight end Evan Engram. The Broncos want to pound the ball and let their defense set the tone, while Tennessee will fight to prove it can hang with a contender.
49ers at Seahawks (Lumen Field) - 4:05 PM
The 49ers bring back Christian McCaffrey (hopefully), who is the key to their balanced offense. Brock Purdy will look to bounce back from last season and lean on George Kittle and young wideout Ricky Pearsall. Seattle counters with Sam Darnold under center and a new ground-heavy attack led by Kenneth Walker. With the crowd roaring at Lumen Field, the Seahawks will try to control the game on the ground, but San Francisco’s defense is built to shut that down. Expect a physical battle between division rivals.
Lions at Packers (Lambeau Field) - 4:25 PM
The Lions want to show their offense can stay explosive even without former coordinator Ben Johnson. Jared Goff will lean on Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sam LaPorta to keep the chains moving. Green Bay, with Jordan Love finally healthy, wants to return to its pass-first identity. He has plenty of targets including Jayden Reed and rookie Matthew Golden, while Josh Jacobs powers the run game. With Lambeau rocking, the Packers will try to push the pace, while Detroit will fight to prove last year was no fluke.
Texans at Rams (SoFi Stadium) - 4:25 PM
The Texans look to bounce back with C.J. Stroud after a sophomore slump. Nico Collins remains the top target, while Christian Kirk and rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel round out the receiving corps. Houston wants to test the Rams’ secondary, but their shaky offensive line could be a problem. Los Angeles comes in reloaded with Matthew Stafford throwing to Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. Kyren Williams leads the backfield, and the Rams offensive line is much healthier than a year ago. This matchup may come down to whether the Texans can protect Stroud against LA’s pass rush.
Ravens at Bills (Highmark Stadium) - 8:25 PM
The Sunday night spotlight shines on two AFC powerhouses. Lamar Jackson leads a Ravens offense that put up huge numbers last year, with Zay Flowers and Derrick Henry as key weapons. The Bills counter with Josh Allen, who looks ready for a career year, throwing to Khalil Shakir and young star Keon Coleman. Both defenses are strong, but this game is all about the quarterbacks. Buffalo will look to protect its home field with Allen’s arm and legs, while Baltimore will try to grind out drives and hit big plays off Jackson’s dual-threat magic. This one could be an early-season classic.
The late games and Sunday night matchup wrap up Week 1 in style. From Denver’s defense to the NFC North battle at Lambeau and the Ravens-Bills clash under the lights, these games will set the tone for the season ahead. It’s only the beginning, but the storylines are already heating up.
