The Boston Celtics Are the NBA’s Biggest Surprise
At the start of the season, most fans did not expect much from the Boston Celtics. After losing key players and seeing their best star sidelined, many thought Boston would struggle or even slide out of the playoff race. Instead, the Celtics have shocked the league. The Celtics are 24-15 and currently have the 3rd best record in the East after the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks. They are winning games, competing every night, and proving they are much tougher than expected.
Life After Jayson Tatum
The biggest challenge for Boston came before the season even began. Jayson Tatum suffered a serious Achilles injury in last year’s playoffs and will miss most, if not the entire season. Losing a superstar like Tatum usually sends a team into a rebuild. The Celtics also traded Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday to get under the luxury tax, which made the roster look thinner than ever.
This left many people wondering: who would lead this team?
Jaylen Brown Steps Up as the Star
The answer has been loud and clear. Jaylen Brown is now the unquestioned leader of the Celtics. Brown is averaging 29.5 points per game, one of the best marks in the NBA. He can score from anywhere on the court, attack the rim with power, and hit tough jump shots. Just as important, he often guards the other team’s best player.
As the 2024 Finals MVP, Brown has shown he can handle pressure. This season, he is proving he can carry a team. With one of the weakest Celtics rosters in recent memory, Brown’s strength, speed, and confidence have been the foundation of Boston’s success.
Everyone Contributes
Boston’s surprise season is not just about one player. Derrick White has been steady on both ends of the floor, while Payton Pritchard leads the team in assists at 5.2 per game and provides energy every night. Anfernee Simons has added much-needed scoring, and center Neemias Queta leads the team in rebounds with 8.2 per game, helping Boston compete inside despite lacking a true star big man.
The Celtics are playing unselfish basketball, sharing the ball, and fighting for every rebound.
What Comes Next?
The Celtics are no longer the championship juggernaut they once were, but they refuse to give up. They have too much pride and talent to fall apart. Whether they push for a playoff spot or slide late in the season, one thing is clear: Boston has already become the NBA’s biggest surprise. If Tatum is able to come back from his Achilles tear, they could even compete for championship once again.
