Week 17 Power Rankings (16–1)
The top half of the league is where playoff pressure, seeding fights, and statement wins take over. Here are the top teams looking ahead to the playoffs.
16) Indianapolis Colts (8-7)
The Colts were overwhelmed in a 48–27 loss to San Francisco as Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey lit them up. Alec Pierce was a bright spot with two touchdown catches, but the defense couldn’t slow the 49ers at all. Indy is still alive, but now every game is must-win.
15) Carolina Panthers (8-7)
Carolina pulled out a huge 23–20 win over Tampa Bay behind Bryce Young’s calm late-game play. Tetairoa McMillan looked like a true No. 1 receiver, scoring just before halftime and again making big catches late. The Panthers are firmly in playoff mode and gaining confidence fast.
14) Detroit Lions (8-7)
Detroit lost a tough shootout to Pittsburgh, 29–24, despite Jared Goff throwing for 364 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown kept them alive late, but defensive breakdowns hurt them. The Lions are still in the mix but running out of time.
13) Green Bay Packers (9-5-1)
The Packers lost 22–16 to Chicago in a game that slipped away in the fourth quarter. Romeo Doubs made plays, but the offense stalled late and couldn’t answer Caleb Williams. Green Bay is hopefully still playoff-bound, but momentum is slipping.
12) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6)
Pittsburgh won a wild 29–24 game in Detroit with Jaylen Warren breaking off two long touchdown runs. Aaron Rodgers managed the game well and avoided big mistakes. The Steelers are peaking at the right time and controlling their playoff fate.
11) Houston Texans (10-5)
Houston survived a scare, holding off the Raiders 23–21 after Ashton Jeanty nearly stole the game. C.J. Stroud didn’t need heroics, but the defense came up big late. The Texans might be playoff-bound but still tightening things up.
10) x — Chicago Bears (11-4)
Chicago rallied past Green Bay 22–16 behind Caleb Williams’ poise and clutch throws to DJ Moore. The Bears’ defense closed the door late and looked playoff-ready. They’ve locked up a spot and are now playing for seeding.
9) x — San Francisco 49ers (11-4)
The 49ers crushed the Colts 48–27 in one of the most dominant performances of the week. Brock Purdy threw five touchdowns, Christian McCaffrey scored four times, and George Kittle was unstoppable. San Francisco looks dangerous and is surging into January.
8) Los Angeles Chargers (11-4)
The Chargers handled Dallas 34–17 as Justin Herbert controlled the game from start to finish. Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey made big plays, and the defense stayed physical. L.A. is rolling and looks built for playoff football.
7) x — Jacksonville Jaguars (11-4)
Jacksonville stunned Denver 34–20 on the road behind Trevor Lawrence’s best game of the season. Parker Washington exploded for huge yardage, and the defense sealed it late. The Jaguars are hot and no one wants to face them.
6) z — Philadelphia Eagles (10-5)
The Eagles beat Washington 29–18 by leaning on Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. Barkley and the offensive line took over in the second half. Philly has clinched the division and is tuning up for the postseason.
5) Buffalo Bills (11-4)
Buffalo beat Cleveland 23–20 behind another strong James Cook performance. The Bills didn’t dominate, but they finished when it mattered. They’re locked into the playoff picture and still chasing top seeding.
4) x — Los Angeles Rams (11-4)
The Rams lost a wild 38–37 overtime thriller to Seattle, but their offense looked explosive. Puka Nacua went off for 225 yards, and Matthew Stafford threw for 457. Even in a loss, the Rams look like a nightmare matchup.
3) x — Denver Broncos (12-3)
Denver’s 11-game win streak ended against Jacksonville, but they’re still in great shape. Bo Nix threw for over 350 yards, though turnovers hurt them. The Broncos remain one of the AFC’s most complete teams.
2) x — New England Patriots (12-3)
New England won a huge 28–24 road game in Baltimore behind Drake Maye’s 380 passing yards. Stefon Diggs and Rhamondre Stevenson delivered late. The Patriots are built to win close playoff games.
1) x — Seattle Seahawks (12-3)
Seattle survived a classic, beating the Rams 38–37 in overtime. Sam Darnold stayed calm, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught the game-winner. With five straight wins, the Seahawks look like the team to beat.
At the top, it’s all about momentum and seeding. Some teams are grinding out wins, others are exploding offensively, but every one of these teams is shaping how dangerous they’ll be once January arrives.
