Week 2: Previewing the 1 O'Clock Games
Week 2 of the NFL season is here, and the Sunday 1:00 games are packed with exciting matchups. From division rivalries to young quarterbacks trying to prove themselves, each game has its own story. Let’s take a look at what to watch for.
Jaguars at Bengals
The Jaguars come in with confidence after a strong win over the Panthers. Trevor Lawrence looked steady, and running back Travis Etienne broke a long touchdown run. The Bengals are also 1-0 after a close win against the Browns. Joe Burrow will try to connect more with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins after a slow start. This game could come down to which defense handles the opposing quarterbacks better.
Giants at Cowboys
The Giants struggled in Week 1, scoring only six points. Quarterback Russell Wilson will need to find Malik Nabers early and often if they want a chance. The Cowboys lost a tough one to the Eagles but showed they can move the ball with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Dallas is at home, and their fans will expect a bounce-back win.
Bears at Lions
In Week 1, Chicago lost a close game to the Vikings, but Caleb Williams showed he can make plays with both his arm and legs. The Lions fell to the Packers and need to prove their offense can stay strong after losing key coaches and linemen. Both teams want to make noise in the NFC North, so this should be an intense battle.
Rams at Titans
The Rams survived a defensive fight against the Texans and will now face a solid defense in Tennessee. Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams will look to make big plays. The Titans had a hard time protecting rookie quarterback Cam Ward in Week 1. If the Rams’ defense brings pressure again, it could be a long day for Tennessee.
Patriots at Dolphins
The Patriots lost at home to the Raiders and need quarterback Drake Maye to take better care of the ball. The Dolphins are coming off a blowout loss to the Colts and will be desperate to show their offense still works with Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle. Expect fireworks if Miami’s stars can get rolling.
49ers at Saints
The 49ers edged out the Seahawks in a close game with Christian McCaffrey. However, they lost both tight end George Kittle and quarterback Brock Purdy to multi-week injuries. The Saints fought hard against the Cardinals but came up short. Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler faces a big challenge against San Francisco’s strong defense. New Orleans will need Alvin Kamara to carry the load if they want to upset the Niners.
Bills at Jets
Buffalo pulled off an amazing comeback against Baltimore behind quarterback Josh Allen’s four touchdowns. The Jets looked solid with Justin Fields and Breece Hall in a narrow loss to the Steelers. This matchup of AFC East rivals should be full of energy, with Allen’s passing attack going up against the Jets’ powerful ground game. However, it will take a miracle for the Jets to beat Josh Allen's elite team.
Seahawks at Steelers
Seattle fell to San Francisco after turning the ball over, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba looked like a star. The Steelers squeaked by the Jets thanks to Aaron Rodgers and a balanced attack. Both defenses are tough, so the team that makes fewer mistakes will likely come out on top.
Browns at Ravens
The Browns lost a close one to the Bengals and are still trying to figure out their quarterback situation. The Ravens put up 40 points but could not stop Buffalo in the fourth quarter. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry will be hard to slow down. Cleveland will need a big game from Myles Garrett to pull off the upset.
