Week 9 NFL Power Rankings: Turning the Corner or Tuning Out
We’ve reached the middle of the NFL season, and every game is starting to matter a lot more. Some teams are showing signs of improvement, while others are still trying to figure things out. From the Jets finally winning a game to the Ravens waiting for Lamar Jackson to return, Week 9 is where teams start to show who they really are.
32. New York Jets (1–7)
The Jets finally got their first win with a wild 39–38 comeback over the Bengals. Breece Hall led the charge, and Justin Fields made big plays with his legs. It’s only one win, but it gives the team something to build on.
31. Tennessee Titans (1–7)
The Titans were crushed 38–14 by the Colts as their young players struggled. Rookie quarterback Cameron Ward showed flashes of talent but couldn’t keep drives alive. This season is about learning and finding future stars.
30. New Orleans Saints (1–7)
The Saints were shut down 23–3 by the Buccaneers. Turnovers and quarterback changes keep hurting their offense. They need a simple, mistake-free game plan to stop the losing streak.
29. Miami Dolphins (2–6)
Miami looked much better in a 34–10 win over the Falcons. Tua Tagovailoa threw four touchdowns, and Jaylen Waddle finally had a big play. If they can protect the football, this offense can still be dangerous.
28. New York Giants (2–6)
The Giants lost 38–20 to the Eagles but played with heart. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart kept fighting and showed promise but rookie running back Cam Skattebo hurt his ankle and is out for the season. If their defense can limit big plays, they’ll start winning more games.
27. Las Vegas Raiders (2–5)
The Raiders’ offense has been quiet since getting shut out by the Chiefs in week 7. They keep struggling on third down and can’t find a rhythm. A fast start and fewer mistakes could help them turn things around.
26. Cleveland Browns (2–6)
The Browns lost 32–13 to the Patriots after giving the ball away too many times. Their defense was on the field too long and wore down late. Running the ball more and protecting the quarterback should be their focus.
25. Arizona Cardinals (2–5)
The Cardinals play hard but keep falling short. The defense starts strong but fades in the second half, and the offense can’t finish drives. They have now lost 5 straight games and the season is slipping away.
24. Cincinnati Bengals (3–5)
The Bengals blew a late lead and lost 39–38 to the Jets. The offense made plays, but the defense couldn’t finish the job. They’ll need better tackling and discipline to stay in the playoff race.
23. Minnesota Vikings (3–4)
The Vikings have talent but can’t seem to play a full game. The defense gives up too many big plays, and the offense settles for field goals. They're still in the playoff race, but will need to rely on rookie JJ McCarthy going forward..
22. Houston Texans (3–4)
The Texans beat the 49ers 26–15 thanks to C.J. Stroud’s sharp passing and a strong running game. The offensive line finally held up, and the defense made key stops. Houston looks like a team starting to find its identity.
21. Atlanta Falcons (3–4)
Atlanta looked flat in a 34–10 loss to Miami. The run game never got going, and the defense allowed too many long plays. They’ll need to get Bijan Robinson more involved to bounce back this week.
20. Baltimore Ravens (2–5)
The Ravens beat the Bears 30–16 behind two touchdowns from Derrick Henry. Their defense was strong, and the offense looked better on the ground. There’s real hope now that Lamar Jackson is close to returning, which could change everything.
19. Washington Commanders (3–5)
Washington started strong against Kansas City but faded in a 28–7 loss. Turnovers and penalties hurt them again. They need to play cleaner football to stay competitive, but their season is slowly slipping away.
18. Carolina Panthers (4–4)
The Panthers’ four-game winning streak ended in a 40–9 loss to the Bills. The defense couldn’t stop the run, and the offense never found its rhythm. They’ll need to regroup fast to stay in the playoff hunt.
17. Dallas Cowboys (3–4–1)
The Cowboys fell 44–24 to the Broncos in a tough road loss. The defense gave up too many big plays, and the offense struggled to keep up. This a strong offensive team so a faster start next week could help them get back on track.
What It Means Going Into Week 9
The middle of the season is where teams start to show their true character. Some, like the Texans and Dolphins, are beginning to turn things around, while others, like the Saints and Titans, are still searching for answers. With stars like Lamar Jackson returning and rookies finding their footing, the next few weeks will decide who’s ready to fight and who’s already looking ahead to next year.
