One week after Jayden Daniels raced for two touchdowns and 103 yards, the Commanders now run into an even bigger challenge: an undefeated San Francisco team under the bright Monday night lights at Levi’s Stadium. Washington fought the Giants to a 27-27 tie last time out, while the 49ers survived a thrilling 32-29 win in Seattle. On Oct. 19, Daniels’ quick feet will meet a 49ers team chasing a 6-0 start.

San Francisco has looked like one of the league’s strongest teams because it can attack in so many ways. The 49ers score nearly 31 points per game, and their offense feels like a puzzle with moving pieces. Coach Kyle Shanahan uses players shifting before the snap, the moment when the ball is put in play, to make defenders hesitate. Quarterback Brock Purdy stays calm inside that action and gets the ball to his playmakers.

Christian McCaffrey is the center of it all. He has scored five rushing touchdowns in five games, but he is also a dangerous pass catcher. When McCaffrey slips into open space, defenders must chase him from every direction. Tight end George Kittle adds power as a blocker and toughness after the catch. Mike Evans gives Purdy a tall target who can win near the sideline or in the end zone. Evans caught seven passes for 113 yards against Seattle, though his ribs leave his status uncertain for Monday.

Washington needs Daniels to keep the action fast and unpredictable. He has played only three games this season, yet his 203 rushing yards show why defenders cannot simply focus on his passes. Against New York, he turned broken-looking plays into long runs. Terry McLaurin can stretch the field with sharp routes, and speedy tight end Chig Okonkwo gave Daniels key catches in the tie. Washington also wants Rachaad White to help carry the rushing load, especially with Jacory Croskey-Merritt ruled out.

The Commanders have moved the ball well on the ground, averaging almost 140 rushing yards per game. But San Francisco allows fewer than 19 points per game and gives up under 300 yards each week. The 49ers will try to keep Daniels in front of them, limit his escape lanes, and force long drives. That job becomes harder without defensive end Nick Bosa, who is out. Linebacker Fred Warner will be a major figure in the middle, where he can track runners and disrupt short passes.

Washington’s defense has allowed nearly 30 points per game, so stopping McCaffrey early is vital. If the Commanders let San Francisco build a lead, Purdy can use play-action, a pass fake that makes defenders pause, to find Kittle or Evans deep downfield.

The Commanders have the quarterback speed to make this a lively fight, but the 49ers bring more balance, a stronger defense, and the confidence of five straight wins. Prediction: San Francisco will win and remain undefeated.
