Josh Allen’s Legs Carry Bills Past Rams in Overtime

Buffalo Bills 37 at Los Angeles Rams 34

Open Grass Ahead

Josh Allen saw one last stretch of open grass in overtime, and the Buffalo Bills had their chance. His runs helped set up Tyler Bass for a 45-yard field goal, giving Buffalo a 37–34 win over the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The finish was wild because the Rams had answered Buffalo again and again. The Bills began with two Bass field goals for a 6–0 lead. Then Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford solved the Bills defense with short passes and runs. He found Davante Adams for a 4-yard touchdown, and Los Angeles moved ahead 7–6.

The Lead Keeps Moving

Allen answered quickly by hitting Ty Johnson for 40 yards. James Cook then ran 17 yards for a touchdown, putting Buffalo back in front. Before halftime, a Rams cornerback intercepted Allen’s deep pass, but Los Angeles did not score after taking the ball away. The Rams gained momentum after the break. Blake Corum ran in from 1 yard out, and the Rams led 14–13. Allen later threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman, but Bass missed the extra point. Stafford and Puka Nacua soon pushed the Rams ahead again when Nacua caught a 2-yard touchdown pass. The failed two-point try left Los Angeles with a 20–19 lead.

Allen Finds the Finish

With the Bills behind, Allen became the runner the Rams could not stop. He broke free for runs of 22 and 21 yards, part of his 121 rushing yards. A 31-yard pass to Ray Davis moved Buffalo closer, and Allen scored on a 1-yard run. He then threw the two-point pass to Dalton Kincaid for a 27–20 lead. Stafford answered with a 30-yard pass to Tyler Higbee, and Adams caught his second touchdown to tie the game. Cook later scored from 5 yards away, yet Stafford led one more fast drive. Kyren Williams scored with five seconds left, forcing overtime at 34–34. In overtime, Cook fumbled after Khalil Shakir’s 57-yard catch, but Buffalo blocked a Rams field-goal try. Allen ran twice to get Bass within range, and Bass made the winning kick. The Bills improved to 4–1, while the Rams fell to 2–3.
