Week 7 · 2026
Seattle’s Defense Silences Kenneth Walker III and Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs 3 at Seattle Seahawks 20
The Field Closes In
Kenneth Walker III returned to Lumen Field in Kansas City red, but Seattle’s defense made the field feel small. Walker brought extra attention to the game, while the Chiefs arrived with a 5-0 record. Yet each time he tried to run, Seahawks defenders closed the gaps. He finished with 36 rushing yards, showing how firmly Seattle controlled the night. The first quarter became a battle for field position, or where each team began its drive. Walker caught an early pass and ran between the tackles, but Kansas City reached Seattle territory twice and punted both times. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold started Seattle’s reply with short runs and quick passes.
A Pass Changes Everything
That steady start opened the second quarter. Darnold hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba for 33 yards down the middle, and Jason Myers made a 25-yard field goal. Then safety Okada intercepted Patrick Mahomes near midfield, catching a pass meant for Kansas City. The play gave Seattle the ball again, and its consequence was quick and huge. Darnold soon sent a deep throw toward Smith-Njigba near the goal line. Replay showed the receiver stayed in bounds for a 28-yard touchdown, putting Seattle ahead 10-0. Kansas City tried a 58-yard field goal before halftime, but the kick fell short. Seattle had made Mahomes work hard for each yard.
The Final Push
Seattle kept pressing after the break. Darnold ran for 10 yards, and tight end AJ Barner caught a 19-yard pass during a drive that ended with Myers’ 35-yard field goal. The score became 13-0. Late in the third quarter, Mahomes moved Kansas City forward with passes to Travis Kelce and Noah Gray. Linebacker Hall then forced a fumble on a sack, though Mahomes recovered the loose ball. Harrison Butker’s 50-yard field goal made it 13-3. Kansas City got no closer. Butker missed from 45 yards early in the fourth quarter, and Seattle answered with its biggest drive. Smith-Njigba helped the Seahawks cross midfield before Emanuel Wilson burst 21 yards for a touchdown. His score made it 20-3 with 3:47 left. Smith-Njigba finished with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown, while Wilson ran for 100 yards. Seattle improved to 4-3 and will face the Chicago Bears next. Kansas City fell to 5-1 and will meet the Denver Broncos.
