Drake Maye’s Four-Touchdown Day Powers Patriots Past Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders 17 at New England Patriots 45
A Fast Start, Then a Reply
Drake Maye sent an early message with a 35-yard touchdown pass to DeMario Douglas. The Patriots had entered Sunday at 2-2, hoping to build toward the form that carried them to last season’s Super Bowl. Against the 3-1 Raiders, Maye gave New England the opening it wanted. Las Vegas did not back away. Tight end Brock Bowers caught a 24-yard pass, then finished the drive with a 13-yard touchdown catch. The score was tied 7-7, and the Raiders had shown they could answer New England’s big play.
Patriots Take Control
That tie did not last long. Rhamondre Stevenson ran in from 5 yards away late in the first quarter, putting the Patriots ahead 14-7. Then Las Vegas got a chance when Corey Kiner fumbled at the New England 38-yard line, but the Patriots defense stopped the drive. Matt Gay’s 49-yard field-goal try hit the left upright instead of going through. Maye made that missed chance matter even more before halftime. Stevenson broke free for a 20-yard run, and Maye connected with Hunter Henry for 26 yards. On the next play, Henry caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. New England took a 21-7 lead into the break, with momentum firmly on its side.
Maye Finishes the Job
The third quarter became Maye’s big stage. He threw a 34-yard touchdown to Kyle Williams, then later ran 3 yards for another score. Las Vegas added a field goal, and Bowers kept finding space over the middle. He ended with eight catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, but the Raiders could not get their running game going. New England held Ashton Jeanty to 27 rushing yards on 10 carries. A Bowers fumble near the New England 36 ended another Raiders push when safety Woods recovered it. The Patriots then added a field goal, while Las Vegas scored once more on Dylan Laube’s 2-yard run. Maye had the last answer, though, as Douglas caught an 8-yard touchdown for his second score. Maye finished with 374 passing yards and four touchdown passes in New England’s 45-17 win. The Patriots are now 3-2 and head to face the New York Jets with their offense rolling again.
