Kenneth Walker III Powers Chiefs Past Chargers at Arrowhead

Los Angeles Chargers 6 at Kansas City Chiefs 22

Walker Finds Daylight

Kenneth Walker III found room to run at Arrowhead Stadium, and the Chiefs quickly took control. Kansas City arrived with a 4-0 record, hoping to leave last season’s struggles behind. The Chargers were 0-5, but they had stayed close in several games and needed a strong finish. Patrick Mahomes began with short, quick passes to Xavier Worthy. Then Walker’s 13-yard run set up Harrison Butker’s 44-yard field goal. The next burst was even bigger. Walker cut through the middle for a 33-yard touchdown, giving Kansas City a 9-0 lead after the extra-point kick missed. Los Angeles answered before the first quarter ended. Justin Herbert connected with Ladd McConkey for 17 yards and ran twice himself. The drive stopped near the goal line, so Cameron Dicker kicked a 23-yard field goal.

A Goal-Line Stand

The Chargers kept pushing in the second quarter, and a Chiefs interception was wiped out by a penalty. Soon after, linebacker Jack Cochrane caught another Herbert pass and returned it to the Chargers’ 17-yard line. An interception happens when a defender catches a pass meant for the other team. Walker helped power the Chiefs down to the 2-yard line, but Cam Hart intercepted Mahomes in the end zone. That stop kept Los Angeles within reach. Kansas City answered without delay. Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for 24 yards, then found Walker on a short pass near the goal line. Walker ran in for his second touchdown. Butker added a 50-yard field goal just before halftime, and the Chiefs carried a 19-3 lead into the break.

The Final Push

After halftime, Herbert threw a 57-yard pass to Quentin Johnston, putting Los Angeles at the Kansas City 1. Yet penalties and three incomplete passes forced the Chargers to kick another field goal. They reached the red zone, the area inside the other team’s 20-yard line, three times but did not score a touchdown. Those lost chances made the final push much harder. Walker kept driving the Chiefs ahead in the fourth quarter. He finished with 128 rushing yards on 19 carries, showing the power of Kansas City’s running strategy. After a Chargers receiver lost the ball near midfield, Mahomes led a long drive that used up valuable time. Walker ran 16 yards to set up Butker’s 30-yard field goal, making it 22-6. Herbert tried to lead one last drive, but Chiefs defenders sacked him twice. Kansas City moved to 5-0 and will next face Seattle, while Los Angeles fell to 0-6 before meeting the Rams.
