Smith-Njigba’s Big Finish Sends Seahawks Past Patriots Again

New England Patriots 10 at Seattle Seahawks 13

How the Game Went

The Seahawks opened their season with a 13-10 comeback win over the Patriots, the team they beat in last season’s Super Bowl. Neither team scored in the first quarter, and Seattle lost quarterback Sam Darnold after an early sack. New England took a 7-0 lead when Eli Raridon caught a two-yard pass from Drake Maye. Andy Borregales added a 50-yard field goal. Seattle answered with Jason Myers’ 30-yard field goal, then Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a 45-yard touchdown to tie it.

Standout Performers

Smith-Njigba was Seattle’s biggest playmaker, catching eight passes for 122 yards. His long touchdown gave the Seahawks new energy in the fourth quarter. Drew Lock entered after Darnold’s injury and led the key scoring drives. Rookie running back Jadarian Price helped early with runs of 13 and 12 yards. Seattle’s defense also made the difference. Cornerback Pritchett intercepted Maye early in the fourth quarter, safety Love added another interception, and cornerback Jobe made the final pick with 26 seconds left.

What It Means

Seattle is 1-0 after rallying from a 10-0 deficit in its title defense. Myers’ 26-yard field goal gave the Seahawks the lead after Love’s interception. New England had one last chance, but Jobe’s interception sealed the win. The Seahawks now travel to face the Arizona Cardinals with confidence from their tough finish. The Patriots fall to 0-1 and will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their offense showed promise, but three interceptions proved that protecting the ball matters in close games.
