Cam Skattebo’s Overtime Burst Lifts Giants Past Texans
New York Giants 27 at Houston Texans 21
Houston Strikes, Giants Answer
New York arrived in Houston looking for a response after a tough loss. The Giants were 3-2-1, while the Texans were 2-4 and hoping to build on recent strong play at home. Houston scored first when its kicker made a 58-yard field goal after Xavier Hutchinson dropped the opening kickoff but still got the ball to the Texans’ 35-yard line. The Giants answered with a drive that showed their big-play skill. Malik Nabers caught a 42-yard pass over the middle, putting New York close to the goal line. Tyrone Tracy Jr. then ran 2 yards for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead. J.J. McCarthy later connected with Malachi Fields for 47 yards, but a long field-goal try missed. Houston’s kicker made a 57-yard kick to cut the lead to 7-6.
Houston Pulls Even
New York kept pressing forward. Nabers made a 17-yard catch, and tight end Thomas Fidone II grabbed a 29-yard pass to reach the 1-yard line. Jameis Winston finished the drive with a quarterback sneak, a short run behind his blockers, giving the Giants a 14-6 lead. But C.J. Stroud brought Houston back before halftime. He hit Tank Dell for 43 yards, and then found Marvin Harrison Jr. for a 6-yard touchdown. A two-point pass to Cade Stover tied the score at 14-14 with 34 seconds left. The third quarter became a hard fight between the defenses. Houston sacked McCarthy twice, while the Giants limited Nico Collins to two catches for 6 yards. A replay also erased what first looked like a Giants touchdown after a fumble return.
Skattebo Opens the Door
With the score still tied, New York found the push it needed in the fourth quarter. Fields caught a 14-yard pass to reach the 16-yard line. Then Cam Skattebo powered through the middle for a 16-yard touchdown. His 124 rushing yards helped the Giants take a 21-14 lead. Houston answered again when Stroud threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Hutchinson with 52 seconds left. In overtime, though, Skattebo burst free for 42 yards and opened the field for New York. Devin Singletary then raced 30 yards for the winning touchdown in a 27-21 Giants victory. The Giants moved to 4-2-1 after gaining 420 total yards and showing steady late-game composure.
