49ers Turn Goal-Line Stand Into Opening-Night Statement

San Francisco 49ers 27 at Los Angeles Rams 7

How the Game Went

San Francisco opened with a patient drive, but settled for Eddy Pineiro’s 20-yard field goal. The Rams answered when Kyren Williams scored after Puka Nacua’s 41-yard catch. After both teams threw interceptions, the 49ers drove 86 yards, and Brock Purdy hit Demarcus Robinson for a 39-yard touchdown. In the second half, Purdy threw touchdown passes to Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. A goal-line stand stopped the Rams at the 1-yard line, and Pineiro’s 56-yard field goal finished the 27-7 win.

Standout Performers

Purdy led the 49ers with 205 passing yards and three touchdown passes. His first touchdown went 39 yards to Demarcus Robinson, and later throws found Evans and Samuel in the end zone. Christian McCaffrey and Kaelon Black helped San Francisco rush for 174 yards. Samuel also gave the offense a boost with a 45-yard kickoff return. On defense, Renardo Green intercepted Matthew Stafford, while Fred Warner forced a Tyler Higbee fumble that White recovered.

What It Means

The 49ers are 1-0 after making an opening-night statement on the road. The Rams are 0-1 and must regroup before facing the New York Giants. San Francisco will carry confidence into its next game against the Miami Dolphins. The biggest lesson came at the goal line. When Los Angeles had a chance to tie the game, the 49ers defense stopped two rushing attempts. That teamwork gave Purdy and the offense a chance to build a much larger lead.
