Mike Evans Powers 49ers Past Seahawks in a 32-29 Escape

San Francisco 49ers 32 at Seattle Seahawks 29

A Big Target Arrives

Mike Evans stood 6 feet 5 inches tall, which made him a hard target to miss near the goal line. On Sunday in Seattle, that size helped the San Francisco 49ers escape with a 32-29 win over the Seahawks. Evans caught seven passes for 113 yards and one touchdown as San Francisco stayed unbeaten at 5-0. The game began with a sudden twist. Seattle cornerback Green intercepted 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold near the Seahawks’ goal line. Yet Seattle could not make that break last. After a 13-yard catch helped move the 49ers close, quarterback Brock Purdy threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Evans. Seattle answered when it recovered a dropped punt at San Francisco’s 24-yard line. Running back Wilson scored from 2 yards away, tying the game 7-7.

The Ball Keeps Bouncing

Seattle moved ahead 10-7 on a Jason Myers field goal early in the second quarter. Then the 49ers’ defense made a huge play. Linebacker Warner knocked the ball loose from Wilson at the Seattle 12, and safety Mustapha fell on it. On the next play, Christian McCaffrey ran 11 yards for a touchdown and a 14-10 lead. Soon, the game turned even wilder. A punt pinned Seattle at its own 1-yard line, leaving almost no room to run. Defensive tackle Halton burst through, knocked the ball loose from running back Holani, and recovered it in the end zone. That gave San Francisco a 21-13 halftime lead. Still, the defending champion Seahawks would not go away.

Evans Helps Seal It

Myers made two more field goals, and cornerback Pritchett intercepted Purdy. Then Darnold found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 16-yard touchdown, putting Seattle ahead 23-21. Smith-Njigba caught five passes for 102 yards, including a 38-yard catch that built momentum for the comeback. Seattle later led 26-21, but Evans helped swing the game back. He caught passes of 23 and 28 yards on one key drive before Purdy hit Brandin Cooks for a 7-yard touchdown. A two-point pass to Evans made it 29-26. Myers tied the score again, but McCaffrey’s 13-yard run set up Eddy Pineiro’s 44-yard field goal with 1:56 left. Seattle reached midfield on its last chance, but three incomplete passes ended the rally. The Seahawks fell to 3-2, while Evans and the 49ers found a way through a messy, close game.
