Jacory Croskey-Merritt scored from 1 yard out, but Jalen Carter blocked the extra point. After Jake Elliott’s field goal, Jayden Daniels threw a touchdown to Stefon Diggs. Goedert caught a 43-yard score, and Washington’s final two-point try failed in a 24–22 Eagles win.
Standout Performers
Hurts finished with 203 passing yards and three touchdown passes. His biggest target was Goedert, who caught four passes for 77 yards and scored twice. Barkley added 83 rushing yards, including a 42-yard run that helped set up Wicks’ touchdown. For Washington, Daniels threw two touchdown passes and guided an offense that scored on all three red-zone trips. He also led the late drive that ended with Antonio Williams’ 1-yard touchdown catch.
What It Means
The Eagles began their NFC East title defense at 1–0 and will next play the Tennessee Titans. Their win showed that teamwork matters in close games. Hurts and Goedert made big plays, Carter blocked an important kick, and DeVonta Smith recovered Washington’s onside kick to finish the game. Washington will visit the Dallas Cowboys next. Although the Commanders lost, their comeback showed perseverance because they kept fighting until the final minute.
